Now Comcast and Samsung have teamed up in order to fill the gap with Samsung streamlining the process of getting 4K content for consumers via an Xfinity 4K app for their televisions. Comcast is attempting to get support from the networks and stations supported by Xfinity, including NBCUniversal.

From Comcast

Comcast Corporation today announced a partnership with Samsung Electronics Co, Ltd. to deliver 4K Ultra High-Definition (UHD) content to 2014 Samsung UHD TVs. Later this year, Xfinity TV customers with Samsung UHD TVs can launch an Xfinity TV 4K app directly on their TVs that will allow them to stream, via the Internet, a variety of 4K UHD movies and TV shows On Demand. Additionally, Comcast is currently working with programmers, including NBCUniversal, to provide a library of 4K UHD choices for the Xfinity TV 4K app. The deal underscores the companies' shared commitment to bringing consumers the best viewing experiences on the biggest screen in the home.

Comcast Debuts First Public U.S.-Based Delivery of 4K Ultra HD at NCTA 2013
"At Comcast, we continue to look for innovative ways to offer our subscribers the most high-quality choices. We will continue to push the boundaries of high-definition technology to deliver the best possible experience to our viewers; 4K UHD is no different," said Matt Strauss, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Video Services for Comcast Cable. "This partnership with Samsung is one way our customers can stream shows and movies in 4K UHD, offering subscribers a glimpse of the television viewing experience of the future. Later this year, our new X1 set-top boxes will deliver 4K UHD content to all 4K UHD capable televisions."

For years, Comcast and Samsung have worked together to bring customers the most advanced, highest-quality entertainment viewing experiences. The partnership includes the Xfinity TV app, which is currently available on 2012 Samsung Smart TVs and will soon be updated for 2013 models. Featuring a sleek, simple search and navigation, customers can view tens of thousands of Xfinity On Demand choices straight from their Samsung Smart TV or Android powered Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Comcast has demonstrated an ability to deliver next-generation experiences and technologies - like 4K UHD - to its customers as content becomes available from programming partners. This past year, Comcast demonstrated the first public U.S.-based delivery of 4K UHD video at the 2013 NCTA show.
