The LFM-1 EX is the largest and most powerful subwoofer in the Outlaw Audio product lineup. While amazingly low-priced and sold Internet-direct, this $599 subwoofer comes packed with a 12-inch-long throw driver housed in a 21.75-inch-tall, 15-inch-wide and 22-inch-deep black cabinet. Internally, there is a 325-watt amp that can peak at much higher levels when driven to its limits in short bursts. The woofer weighs a hefty 70 pounds and can remotely be turned off and on.
High Points
• Nobody should live without a "point 1" in their life and, at $600, Outlaw truly (and literally) delivers.
• The sonics of this woofer are off-the-charts for the money.
• The fit and finish is nicer than you might expect from an affordable subwoofer.
• For those looking to do it really right, two Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EXs allow for more even placement and smooth low bass response in the room, without the need for the Federal Reserve to come in for an economic bailout of some sort.
Low Points
• There is no room correction software in this sub of the type you will find with more expensive units.
• The rated depth of the sub is only 40 Hz, which isn't incredibly low, even though it seems lower than that when you have an LFM-1 rocking.
Conclusion
The biggest bang for the buck in subwoofers might just be the Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX. For the money, it's just hard to make an argument about how you can beat the performance for the price. While not dressed to kill like woofers costing twice (or more) the price, Outlaw provides a true low-frequency value that people are raving about in the home theater forums and on the pages of the best audiophile and home theater publications.
