Polk Audio is now shipping two new in-wall speakers that bring IP (Internet Protocol) potential to legacy installations.

Specifically, Polk designed the new SC85-IPR (MSRP $214.95 each) and SC80-IPR (MSRP 174.95 each) to be fully compatible with upgrades from analog to IP technology.

"There's no doubt that IP technology will be an important factor in the custom market, especially now that integrators are looking for ways to increase sales through retrofit installations," said Polk Audio Line Manager Al Baron. "With the market still learning about the advantages of IP, we designed our new SC85-IPR and SC80-IPR models to be top performers in any configuration, though they really shine when used as part of NetStreams-based IP system."

The SC85-IPR and SC80-IPR are direct replacements for Polk's popular SC85 and the SC80 models, respectively, providing enhanced features and performance without an increase in price.

The two SC-IPR loudspeakers can be installed into conventional analog systems via speaker cabling connected to a central amplifier. However, if the system is upgraded to a NetStreamsĀ® IP-based multiroom system, the installer can connect the SC-IPR models to a local digital amplifier via Euro-style (DIN) inputs, with the internal rocker switch set to IP mode. The SC-IPR loudspeakers are then bi-amplified and DSP-enhanced.

The SC85-IPR is a rectangular two-way in-wall loudspeaker employing an 8" Dynamic Balanceā„¢ composite polymer driver and a 1" aimable silk dome tweeter with a Neodymium magnet. The SC80-IPR employs the same drivers in a round in-ceiling configuration.

Polk's SC-IPR loudspeakers are available through custom installation specialists and traditional Polk Audio dealers.
