Vimeo unveils new support for Vimeo PRO members that gives them the option to make their video files available as a 4K download (provided the content was shot and uploaded in 4K, of course). Even better, for any creator planning on selling their work on Vimeo On Demand, our self-distribution platform, they'll now be able to include a 4K download option for anyone who buys their film.

2015 is expected to be a breakout year for 4K content, and we want to support creators who are using Vimeo as a workflow platform to showcase and share their work in the most high-quality way. The feature is only available to Vimeo PRO members and adds to the robust feature set already available for the low-cost $200/year price point.

This is the first step in our support for 4K (and beyond!) video viewing, and we've already had some early success with two popular VOD titles acquired earlier this year launching with the 4K download option: Video Game High School Season 3 and A Film About Coffee. While we're not rolling out 4K streaming just yet, it is something we're working on and looking forward to providing when the timing and viewer bandwidth support makes sense.
