Leica, renowned for its precision optics and imaging expertise, has expanded its home cinema line with the Cine Play 1, a compact, high-resolution projector designed for versatile use. The Cine Play 1 joins Leica's Cine 1 Cinema TV as the company’s second major home cinema device, catering to enthusiasts who value both high-quality visuals and ease of portability.

At the core of the Cine Play 1 is a 4K-capable projection system supported by a triple RGB laser light source, which Leica claims is rated to last over 25,000 hours. With a maximum brightness of 3,000 ANSI lumens, the projector is built to perform well in both dim and brightly lit environments.

According to Leica, this feature allows users to enjoy movies, shows, or games without the need to darken the room entirely, although lower light settings can enhance the cinematic feel.

The Cine Play 1 supports a broad range of HDR formats, including Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG, contributing to its flexibility and compatibility with modern content. Additionally, it achieves full coverage of the BT.2020 color space, a high benchmark for color accuracy in projection.

Combined with a throw ratio of 0.9-1.5:1, the projector can scale visuals from 65 to 300 inches, giving users the flexibility to adapt the display size to a variety of viewing spaces, from intimate home theaters to larger living rooms.

A major feature of the Cine Play 1 is the inclusion of Leica’s Summicron zoom lens, designed to maintain 4K resolution throughout its zoom range. This high-quality glass lens is paired with Leica’s proprietary Image Optimization (LIO) system, which the company describes as a software suite that enhances color gradients and contrast, aiming for what Leica states is a “natural and lifelike” visual experience. Users can also take advantage of a game mode that reduces input lag to under 12 milliseconds, making the projector a viable option for gaming.

With an aluminum exterior inspired by the Bauhaus movement, the Cine Play 1 combines durability with aesthetic appeal. Its compact form (measuring approximately 10.3 x 9.5 x 9 inches) and weight of 14.7 pounds make it a portable option among high-end home cinema projectors.

Leica offers an optional floor stand with a pin-contact system that powers the device through the baseplate, keeping cables hidden and allowing flexible placement without additional wiring.

The Cine Play 1 supports a wide range of connectivity options, including Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6, Apple Airplay, and screen mirroring capabilities. For wired connections, the projector includes HDMI 2.1 ports—one with eARC for integration with home theater audio setups—as well as USB 3.0 and Ethernet LAN for more stable network connections.

Users can also connect to streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video through the VIDAA operating system, which features a web browser and supports voice search for added convenience.

Beyond visual features, the Cine Play 1 is equipped with a built-in audio system, featuring two 15-W speakers and DTS Virtual:X technology. For those seeking a more robust audio experience, the projector offers both optical and analog outputs, allowing integration with external sound systems.

The Leica Cine Play 1 is available for purchase through Leica’s authorized dealers and online storefront for $3,795. The optional Floor Stand accessory can be added for $495, giving users the flexibility to adjust the projector’s height and positioning as needed. For those willing to invest even more money, The Leica Cine 1 Cinema TV UST 4K Laser projector is available at Dreamedia for $8,995.00.
