After an extensive decade-long journey of development, Rega, the renowned British audio equipment manufacturer, has unveiled its latest creation – the Rega AYA Loudspeakers. Designed under the supervision of Rega founder Roy Gandy, these speakers represent a unique approach to audio performance and design.
The most striking feature of the Rega AYA Loudspeakers is their unconventional construction. These speakers are housed in cabinets crafted from GRC (glass-reinforced cement), a material more commonly associated with bespoke concrete furniture and installations. The use of GRC, according to Rega, not only enhances structural integrity but also reduces weight, resulting in a unique blend of performance and cost-effectiveness.
The development of the AYA loudspeaker cabinets was a collaborative effort with a UK-based company renowned for its expertise in working with GRC. This partnership allowed Rega to create what they believe is the perfect loudspeaker enclosure, offering exceptional value for money.
Rega has always been known for its commitment to sustainability, and the AYA Loudspeakers reflect this ethos. To minimize waste and cater to varying customer preferences, magnetic grilles for the speakers will be offered as an optional extra, priced at £80.
The Rega AYA Loudspeakers are a 2.5-way band-pass design, featuring Rega's own handmade drivers, a ZRR high-frequency tweeter, and a newly designed crossover. The unique sculptured cabinets and stands not only contribute to the speakers' aesthetics but also create a floating effect, adding to their visual appeal.
These speakers come finished in steel grey and weigh 14.1 kilograms each. Their dimensions measure 258 x 871 x 215mm (10.2 x 34.3 x 8.5 inches), making them suitable for a variety of room setups. With an impedance of 6 ohms and a sensitivity rating of 89.5dB, the Rega AYA Loudspeakers are designed to work efficiently with a range of amplification systems. They have a power handling capacity of 110W per channel, dependent on the amplification used.
