A Sustainable Soundscape: The Sonus Faber Concertino G4

Sonus Faber's new Concertino G4 speakers offer a sophisticated blend of classic design and modern acoustic advancements.

A Sustainable Soundscape: The Sonus Faber Concertino G4

Sonus Faber, the esteemed Italian manufacturer known for its high-fidelity audio equipment, has unveiled the latest addition to its renowned Concertino range—the Concertino G4 stand-mount speakers. These two-way passive bookshelf loudspeakers, available from September 2024, aim to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation, reflecting a seamless integration of heritage and contemporary technology.

The Concertino G4 speakers continue the legacy of their predecessors but introduce several noteworthy advancements. The most significant innovation lies in their central chassis, constructed from cork.

This material, also used in other Sonus Faber collections like Suprema and Sonetto, helps to limit internal resonances and reduces the need for additional damping materials. This cork structure is not only functional but also an eco-friendly choice, aligning with the brand's commitment to sustainability.

The chassis' side walls are crafted from solid walnut wood, featuring ribbed surfaces. This design choice enhances the speakers' structural integrity and rigidity without the need for internal bracing. The combination of cork and walnut provides a robust yet aesthetically pleasing framework.

Sonus Faber has also incorporated sustainable materials in the Concertino G4's design. The speakers feature recycled leather and a plant-based leather alternative from the Italian startup Ohoskin.

This alternative is made from orange and cactus byproducts, offering a vegan and sustainable option without compromising on luxury. The cork structure and front baffle are covered with these materials, further emphasizing the brand's dedication to eco-friendly design practices.

The Concertino G4 is equipped with a 2.5 cm silk dome tweeter utilizing Sonus Faber's patented Damped Apex Dome (D.A.D.) technology. This technology aims to control the diaphragm’s behavior, reducing distortion for a clearer sound. Complementing the tweeter is a 12.7 cm long-throw paper pulp mid-woofer housed in an organic basket, ensuring rich and dynamic sound reproduction.

The speakers feature a rear-positioned reflex duct, crafted from walnut wood, designed to reduce front turbulence and enhance overall acoustic performance. The simplified crossover design follows a Phase-Coherent philosophy, ensuring accurate phase alignment and delivering a more defined, three-dimensional audio image.
