ACTIVO, a sub-brand of Astell&Kern, has expanded its audio product lineup with the release of the Q1 in-ear monitors (IEMs). Developed in collaboration with Singapore-based DITA Audio, the Q1 aims to offer high-quality sound and portable convenience, tailored for audiophiles and P1 by Astell&Kern Digital Audio Player users, released earlier this year.
The ACTIVO Q1 IEMs feature a hybrid driver configuration, combining DITA Audio's PM1+ 9.8mm dynamic driver with brass housing and a single Knowles balanced armature driver. This pairing delivers a comprehensive sound profile with clarity, fast response, and punchy bass, while the Knowles driver ensures clean and detailed high frequencies. The dynamic driver’s brass housing is said to enhance the richness of the lower and mid frequencies, creating a balanced audio experience.
A key element of the Q1’s design is its cabling. The included MOCCA2 cable, developed by DITA Audio and manufactured by Cardas in the USA, is composed of 32 strands of ultra-pure copper conductors.
The cable is twisted to DITA’s specifications, ensuring durability and optimal signal transfer. Users have the flexibility to switch between 4.4mm balanced and 3.5mm single-ended plugs, making the Q1 compatible with a wide array of digital audio players and DACs.
The earphones are coated in white to visually complement the ACTIVO P1 player, emphasizing the pairing’s cohesive design philosophy.
The ACTIVO Q1 package includes several features aimed at convenience and portability. Buyers receive a mini Tanos Systainer case co-branded by ACTIVO and DITA, designed to provide robust storage for the earphones and accessories. Additionally, five sizes of Final Audio Type-E eartips are included, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit for various ear shapes and sizes.
The partnership between ACTIVO and DITA Audio combines over 45 years of experience in the audio industry. While ACTIVO brings its South Korean design sensibility and ties to Astell&Kern, DITA contributes its engineering acumen and attention to detail in cable and driver technology. Together, they’ve created an IEM that complements the recently released P1 by Astell&Kern digital audio player, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics.
