Alexa Voice Control Is Coming to Crestron

By |

Crestron-alexa.jpgCrestron joins the ranks of Control4Sonos, and Denon in adding Alexa voice control to its home automation platform. Crestron users who own an Alexa-supported device like the Amazon Echo or Fire TV will be able to control individual devices or launch advanced scenes using voice commands. Crestron programmers will be able to configure Alexa commands using new software modules that will work with Crestron 3-Series processors and the Crestron Pyng app.

From Crestron
Crestron has partnered with Amazon Alexa to provide next-generation voice control of Crestron home systems. Crestron Technology Professionals can now leverage Alexa Voice Service to build voice controlled scenes and settings that are fully customized to their clients' lifestyles. Integration is not limited to basic functions such as lighting and temperature; homeowners can choose from an unlimited range of voice control options for their homes featuring the unparalleled power, nuance, and customization only available with Crestron.

"Crestron customers expect a truly integrated home technology experience," said John Clancy, VP of Residential Systems at Crestron. "We've been collaborating very closely with Amazon Alexa engineers to make sure we offer an uncompromising voice control experience that is every bit as seamless and satisfying as tapping a button on a beautiful Crestron touchscreen, remote control, or designer keypad. You can ask Alexa to set the mood for dinner, or to play a movie in the bedroom, or let her know it's too cold in the bathroom. Just say the word, and your Crestron system responds immediately."

Crestron Technology Professionals can quickly define and deploy Amazon Alexa skills using new software modules that interface with both the Smart Home Skill API and the Alexa Skills Kit SDK. These modules are for use with homes using both Crestron 3-Series processors (available October 1st) and Crestron Pyng app (coming soon). More detailed information will be available for Crestron dealers soon, as well as a comprehensive suite of training resources.
