Amazon Fire TV Debuts Gaming

By |

sev-zero.jpgWith the glut of home TV alternatives that are out there, Amazon's new Fire TV has one trick up its sleeve to seperate it from the other guys. Sev Zero is a new (and suprisingly advanced for a set-top TV box) game available for Fire TV at a cost of $6.99- or free with a Fire TV controller. It doesn't seem like Amazon is trying to position Fire TV as a gaming system, but rather is trying to give its customers something the other guys don't. And for the casual gamer, maybe its enough to not have to invest in a gaming console.

Amazon Game Studios today introduced Sev Zero, the Studios' first game built from the ground up for Fire TV. Sev Zero combines a fast-action third-person shooter experience with the calculated strategy of tower defense gameplay for a fun, big screen experience at a remarkable value. Sev Zero is available today for $6.99 or for free with the purchase of a Fire game controller. Learn more about Sev Zero and watch the trailer at sevzerogame.com.

"We've heard from customers that they want more from the games they play on streaming media devices--games that are rich, unique and immersive. Sev Zero is the first step by Amazon Game Studios to address that challenge"

Earth is threatened by an alien species, the Ne'ahtu. Early in the 22nd century, the Ne'ahtu infected Earth's energy grid with a computer virus that disabled the planet's defenses. Before the Ne'ahtu could strike, computer prodigy Amy Ramanujan neutralized the alien computer virus and saved the planet. Now, the Ne'ahtu are back and Dr. Ramanujan is trying to prevent them from another all-out invasion of Earth. Switching between towers (to launch various missiles and grenades) and face-to-face combat (to attack with machine guns), the player's mission is to join Dr. Ramanujan and defend Earth from the Ne'ahtu.

In Sev Zero, players can jump between environments--start in tower defense mode to build out towers and assess the surroundings, and then beam down to shooter mode for face-to-face combat against the Ne'ahtu. Players can also bring friends and family into the action with the Sev Zero companion tablet app, Sev Zero: Air Support. With this multi-player, multi-screen experience, players help each other thwart the enemies--one player is in Air Support mode initiating air strikes from their tablet while the other player is in face-to-face combat mode.

Here's what customers who were given an early preview of the game had to say:

"This is an exciting sci-fi tower defense game. It is set in a futuristic setting and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I can't wait to play it again!"

"The multiplayer game brings in a whole other level of gameplay where one person is on a tablet. It's non-stop fun with the waves of enemies that come at you."

"It's been ages since I have seen a game that involves both thinking and going all out trigger happy. A lot of the games nowadays are just focused on shooting and that's it. This game carries more than that . . . great game for thinkers and gives you an edge to be a 3rd person shooter at the same time."

"When we got to play the tablet portion with a partner, that thing was mind blowing, very fun and exciting. Very fun playing co-op with your partner."

"We've heard from customers that they want more from the games they play on streaming media devices--games that are rich, unique and immersive. Sev Zero is the first step by Amazon Game Studios to address that challenge," said Mike Frazzini, Vice President, Amazon Games. "We think customers will be surprised by how much fun they can have playing games on such a tiny, yet powerful, device in Fire TV. Sev Zero is our first of several games in development and provides a peek into what's to come from Amazon Game Studios."

Sev Zero is available for $6.99 or for free with the purchase of a Fire TV game controller. Learn more about Sev Zero at sevzerogame.com and Amazon Game Studios at games.amazon.com.
