Arlo has announced the launch of its newest Essential security cameras and updated video doorbell in an attempt to tap into the budget-friendly security camera market. This move places Arlo in direct competition with other affordable camera manufacturers, providing customers with an economical way to secure their homes.
Until recently, Arlo's entry-level security camera carried a price tag of $99, making it considerably pricier than some of its rivals. However, Arlo's latest offerings now start at an affordable $39.99, placing them in direct competition with the likes of Wyze Cam v3 ($35.98) and the Blink Mini ($34.99).
The centerpiece of Arlo's new affordable camera range is the revamped Essential Indoor Camera, which comes equipped with a physical and automated privacy shield. This privacy feature allows users to block the lens when needed, ensuring peace of mind and privacy. This camera offers a 130-degree field of view, noise-cancelling audio for clear two-way communication, and night vision capabilities. The 1080p version of the Essential Indoor Camera is priced at just $39.99, with an upgraded 2K video quality model available for $79.99.
For outdoor surveillance needs, Arlo offers the Essential Outdoor Camera. This weather-resistant camera features a 130-degree viewing angle, integrated spotlight, night vision, two-way audio with noise cancellation, and a siren. The HD version of this camera starts at $49.99, while the 2K model is available for $79.99. For those seeking enhanced battery life and color night vision, the Essential XL Outdoor Camera is available for $149.99.
Arlo's Video Doorbell also gets a significant upgrade in its second generation. It now boasts a panoramic 180-degree field of view, remote video chat capabilities, and the ability for visitors to leave voice messages when homeowners are away. Additionally, it features a touchless disarm system, which works seamlessly with the forthcoming Arlo Security Tag. The Arlo Video Doorbell is priced at $79.99 for the HD version and $129.99 for the 2K variant.
All of these new Arlo cameras are designed to work seamlessly with popular smart home ecosystems like IFTTT and Google Assistant, with Alexa support on the horizon.
Arlo is also offering subscription plans to complement its camera lineup. The Arlo Secure subscription, priced at $4.99 per month for one camera or $12.99 for multiple cameras, provides 30 days of video storage, AI-powered detection for people, vehicles, packages, and pets, as well as smart notifications and sound recognition for smoke alarms. For those who want 24/7 professional monitoring, the Arlo Safe & Secure Pro plan is available for $24.99 per month.
Arlo's latest lineup of cameras is scheduled to be available for purchase starting October 2, 2023.
