Swedish audio brand Audio Pro is bringing a fresh look to its popular A28 wireless speaker system, introducing a walnut veneer finish inspired by vintage audio gear from the 1960s and 70s. The new aesthetic, which joins the existing black and white color options, is set to launch at the end of February 2025 with a $650 price tag.
While the finish is new, the A28 remains unchanged in terms of functionality—offering a compact, bookshelf-sized design with multi-room capabilities, streaming support, and versatile connectivity options that position it as both a TV sound solution and a standalone music system.
The A28 is a two-speaker system designed to work as both a multi-room speaker setup and a soundbar alternative for TV audio. It’s a powered speaker system, meaning one speaker houses all the electronics—including the amplifiers, streaming tech, and inputs—while the second speaker is passive and connects via a speaker cable.
For TV users, HDMI-ARC support makes it easy to connect the A28 to most modern televisions. There’s also a subwoofer output, in case you want to beef up the bass with an external sub.
Music lovers will appreciate its multi-room functionality, with support for AirPlay 2, Google Cast, and Audio Pro’s own multi-room system. Whether you’re streaming over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect), or playing locally stored music, there are plenty of options for listening.
Audio Pro has always leaned into a minimalist Scandinavian design, favoring simple shapes and neutral tones. Up until now, the A28 was only available in black or white, blending seamlessly into modern spaces.
But as demand for wood-finished speakers has grown, Audio Pro decided to introduce a walnut veneer version, giving the A28 a warmer, vintage-inspired appearance. While it looks like something straight out of the 1970s, it’s still packed with modern tech.
Inside, nothing has changed—each speaker still features a 1-inch textile dome tweeter and a 4.5-inch woofer, powered by 75 watts per channel. According to Jens Henriksen, Audio Pro’s Chief Commercial Officer, the wood grain finish was added in response to customer demand for more natural materials.
“We strongly believe that our Scandinavian, minimalistic style is the recipe for our success. Our aim is to keep our design as clean as possible, without any frills or embellishments," said Henriksen.
“However, we have recently seen a demand in the market for a surface that highlights the wood structure and its beautiful grain and diverse colour scale. We feel that this does not mean that we have to compromise with our minimalist and plain design, but that it can be combined nicely. We have therefore decided to launch one of our very popular speakers, the A28, in a beautiful walnut veneer.”
If you’re happy with black or white, the A28 is already available for $600 on Amazon and other retailers. But if you want the walnut veneer model, you’ll need to wait until late February 2025 and be ready to pay $650.
