Audio-Technica's Latest Vinyl Cartridge: The AT-ART1000X

In a nod to its long-standing tradition of excellence, Audio-Technica introduces the AT-ART1000X, its most sophisticated vinyl cartridge to date.

Audio-Technica's Latest Vinyl Cartridge: The AT-ART1000X

If you are a true audiophile and vinyl enthusiast, you know that Audio-Technica has long been a revered name and synonymous with high-quality audio equipment. The company's latest offering, the AT-ART1000X, is poised to make waves in the market, touted as the most advanced cartridge the brand has produced to date. This new moving coil (MC) cartridge marks a significant advancement in vinyl playback technology.

Audio-Technica's dedication to vinyl playback spans over six decades. The company's unwavering commitment to this medium has led to the creation of the AT-ART1000X, which builds upon the success of its predecessor, the AT-ART1000.

Developed and manufactured in Japan, this new model is the result of eight years of intensive research and development. It promises to elevate the analog listening experience with its refined design and superior performance capabilities.

Central to the AT-ART1000X’s design is its direct power system. This innovative approach places the dual moving coils directly above the stylus tip, a feature that should ensure even the most subtle musical details are captured accurately.

Unlike traditional round coils, the AT-ART1000X features newly developed rectangular coils. This design change increases the surface area of the coils within the magnetic field, leading to improved efficiency and a more robust output voltage.

The coils themselves are meticulously hand-wound from PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) wire, each with a diameter of 20 micrometers. This precise winding process is carried out by skilled experts in Japan, ensuring consistency and quality, according to the company. The rectangular shape of the coils contributes to an expanded low-frequency range, which should result in more powerful and accurate bass reproduction.

The AT-ART1000X maintains the solid boron cantilever and titanium base that characterized its predecessor. These components are housed within a rigid aluminum casing, which helps to disperse any resonance that could potentially degrade sound quality. Audio-Technica claims the sturdy construction ensures the stylus can read the record groove with exceptional precision, providing a clear and consistent playback.

One of the notable improvements in the AT-ART1000X is the inclusion of a special coating on the magnetic circuit. This coating protects against corrosion, ensuring that the cartridge maintains its performance capabilities over a longer period. With an output voltage of 0.22 millivolts and a coil impedance of 3.5 ohms, the new cartridge is designed to deliver high-quality sound with minimal distortion.

Key Features:

  • Direct power system.
  • Rectangular coils for improved efficiency and extended low frequencies.
  • Threaded mounting holes.
  • Special line contact stylus and solid boron cantilever with a 0.26mm diameter.
  • Non-magnetic core coils.
  • Titanium base for the magnetic circuit.
  • PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) coil.
  • Protective coating against corrosion.
  • Developed and manufactured in Japan.

The AT-ART1000X is now available for purchase, with a price tag that reflects its high-end status. Retailing at $5,000 in the United States, £4,700 in the United Kingdom, and €5,500 in Europe, this cartridge is positioned as a premium option for audiophiles who demand the best in vinyl playback equipment.
