Audiolab, a stalwart in the hi-fi industry since the release of its iconic 8000A amplifier in 1983, has unveiled two new additions to its top-tier 9000 Series: the 9000Q preamplifier and the 9000P stereo power amplifier. This marks the company's return to separate pre/power amplifier systems after an eight-year hiatus, enriching its flagship lineup that already includes the award-winning 9000N network streamer, 9000CDT CD transport, and 9000A integrated amplifier.
Both the 9000Q and 9000P share the clean, modern design of the 9000 Series. The 9000Q features a left-aligned 4.3-inch color IPS display flanked by two rotary controls, offering intuitive access to its menu and settings.
Users can customize their listening experience with options like digital upsampling, input sensitivity adjustment, and balance control. The display also includes a VU-style meter that visually tracks decibel levels in real-time, a nod to audiophile traditions.
The 9000Q is designed to handle a variety of digital and analog sources. Its digital inputs include USB Type B and four S/PDIF connections (two coaxial, two optical), while analog inputs include three stereo RCA and one balanced XLR connection. A dedicated phono input caters to turntable enthusiasts using moving magnet (MM) cartridges, enhanced by a refined low-noise circuit for precise RIAA equalization.
For digital audio enthusiasts, the 9000Q integrates the ESS Sabre ES9038PRO DAC, offering support for PCM files up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512. Full MQA decoding and Roon certification ensure compatibility with modern high-resolution audio ecosystems. Wireless streaming is facilitated by Bluetooth 5.0, supporting high-quality codecs like aptX HD and LDAC.
The 9000Q’s outputs include stereo RCA and XLR connections for preamp duties, with an "XLR Direct" mode ensuring a fully balanced signal path. Additional features include a headphone output powered by a current-feedback amplifier, catering to demanding headphones, and a pair of 12V trigger outputs for seamless system integration.
Audiolab has integrated advanced power supply filtering derived from its DC Block series, which reduces noise and interference from mains power. This technology, combined with the precision engineering of the ES9038PRO DAC’s supporting circuitry, ensures clean, dynamic audio reproduction. The preamplifier’s Class A post-DAC active filter optimizes signal processing for clarity and depth.
The 9000P stereo power amplifier is built for versatility and performance. Delivering 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, the amplifier features a Complementary Feedback design that ensures thermal stability and linearity. With separate power supplies for the left and right channels, the 9000P’s dual-mono topology minimizes cross-channel interference.
For users seeking even more power, the 9000P can operate in bridged mono mode, delivering 300 watts per channel into 8 ohms. This configuration is ideal for driving demanding speakers or creating a bi-amped system.
Like the 9000Q, the 9000P benefits from advanced mains filtering to enhance its sonic performance. Gold-plated binding posts, stereo RCA and XLR inputs, and a 12V trigger input offer flexible integration with various setups. Audiolab highlights the amplifier's ability to deliver dynamic, detailed performance with “effortless musicality,” even at high volume levels.
