Focal has unveiled the Bathys MG, a new pair of high-end wireless noise-canceling headphones designed for audiophiles who want great sound on the go. This latest model blends Bluetooth convenience, active noise cancellation (ANC), and premium materials while staying true to Focal’s reputation for high-fidelity audio. Launching in May 2025, the Focal Bathys MG are available now for pre-order at Crutchfield, priced at $1,299 ($1,699 CAD).

The Bathys MG borrows design cues from Focal’s Clear MG headphones, sporting a Chestnut-colored finish with a backlit Focal logo on the ear cups. It’s built using a mix of magnesium, aluminum, and genuine leather, offering a balance of durability, lightweight comfort, and a premium feel.

The ergonomic memory foam earpads aim to make long listening sessions comfortable, while the replaceable ear cushions help with maintenance. Whether you're at home or traveling, the build quality suggests these headphones are made to last.

At the heart of the Bathys MG’s performance are 40mm magnesium speaker drivers with an M-shaped dome, developed and manufactured in France. Magnesium is known for its balance of lightweight construction and acoustic precision, and Focal claims these drivers deliver detailed, natural sound with strong bass and crisp highs.

For those looking for a true high-resolution listening experience, the USB-DAC mode supports audio playback up to 24-bit/192kHz, providing a higher-quality option for wired listening. This gives users more flexibility, allowing them to switch between Bluetooth convenience and a wired hi-fi experience when needed.

Noise-canceling technology has become a must-have for premium headphones, and the Bathys MG features an upgraded ANC system with newly optimized microphones for better voice isolation and background noise reduction.

Users can choose between three ANC settings based on their environment:

• Silent Mode – Best for blocking out loud background noise, ideal for planes or busy offices.
• Soft Mode – A more relaxed noise-canceling option for everyday situations.
• Transparent Mode – Lets outside sounds in, so you can stay aware of your surroundings.

These settings, along with EQ customization and other sound adjustments, can be controlled through the Focal & Naim app. The app even includes a hearing test that tailors the sound profile based on individual hearing preferences.

Battery life is another highlight of the Bathys MG. In Bluetooth mode, users can expect up to 30 hours of playback, while wired jack mode extends that to 35 hours. For even longer sessions, USB-DAC mode pushes battery life to 42 hours. If you’re running low, the fast-charge function provides five additional hours of listening time after just 15 minutes of charging.

On the connectivity front, the headphones feature Bluetooth 5.2 for a stable wireless experience, along with multipoint pairing, which lets users connect to two devices at once without constantly switching connections.
