Bang & Olufsen, the renowned Danish luxury audio manufacturer, has revealed a striking new design for its Beosound A5 wireless speaker. This latest iteration, known as the Beosound A5 Spaced Aluminium, represents a fusion of craftsmanship and innovation as the Danish company reimagines the concept of portable wireless speakers.
The Beosound A5 Spaced Aluminium comes after the earlier releases in Nordic Weave and Dark Oak finishes. This new variant embodies the brand's dedication to pushing the envelope when it comes to both design and technology. Crafted at the Bang & Olufsen Factory 5 in Struer, this speaker is a testament to the brand's mastery of aluminum, a metal often associated with mundane everyday products like soda cans.
The grill of the Beosound A5 Spaced Aluminium is a notable feature, comprised of more than 3,500 meticulously anodized aluminum discs, which undergo a multi-stage process to achieve its distinctive two-tone appearance. This intricate process showcases Bang & Olufsen's unwavering dedication to excellence in design and craftsmanship. Like its predecessors, the Spaced Aluminium model provides a 360-degree sound experience, thanks to its quad-ruple onboard drivers.
Michael Henriksson Bang & Olufsen Vice President of Product Marketing said: “We have worked with different circular patterns across our speaker grille designs for many years. It has become a signature, but this is a brand-new style…The look of the “floating discs” is created using a second layer of aluminum, carefully designed in a grid behind the surface to create the optical illusion and let the sound flow through”.
Each of the four custom-designed drivers is individually amplified, including two full-range 50mm drivers, a solo 20mm tweeter, and a substantial 130mm bass driver, resulting in a finely-tuned and consistent sound profile that resonates with audiophiles and design enthusiasts alike.
The launch of Beosound A5 Spaced Aluminium also comes with enhanced functionality through a software update, available for the earlier models as well. One of these updates is the Automatic Stereo Pairing, which enables two A5 speakers to automatically pair and deliver a stereo sound experience.
The second update, named Fluid Sweet Spot, further enhances the stereo setup, allowing users to specify their position in the room via the Bang & Olufsen app. The speakers then adjust to provide an "ideal sound output" based on the listener's location.
Connectivity is a strong suit of the Beosound A5, featuring Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6, native support for streaming services like Apple's AirPlay 2, Chromecast, and high-resolution Spotify and Tidal. The speaker can be powered through USB-C, and it boasts a built-in battery that provides up to 12 hours of playback. Additionally, it includes a Qi wireless charging pad integrated into the top panel for added convenience.
The Beosound A5 Spaced Aluminium is available now through Bang & Olufsen's official website and select retailers worldwide, priced at $1,399 or €1,499.
