Best Dolby Atmos Speakers

Here are the top Dolby Atmos speakers we've found!

I love watching movies and always stay up to date on the newest releases. Unfortunately, I don't have time to go to the cinema often. That's why I always do my best to have a setup at home that resembles a movie theater with the budget I have. Thankfully, it doesn't take too much money to have an amazing setup at home. One of the best ways to do this is to get Dolby Atmos enabled speakers.

Dolby Atmos refers to a surround sound technology that was initially developed in 2012 by Dolby Laboratories. The technology was first used only in movie theaters before ultimately being implemented in speaker systems for home theaters.

What made Dolby Atmos different from other surround sound technologies is that it incorporated extra height channels. This addition plays an extremely important role in providing a more enveloping sound effect in your room.

Now, I know what you're going to say. Not everybody has enough space for a home theater. There is actually a great alternative if you don't have space in your room. There are excellent Dolby Atmos soundbars that provide you with that sound immersion and recreate a wider soundstage. There are both premium and affordable soundbars that will enhance your experience when you're watching movies or TV shows.

Klipsch is an American loudspeaker company that was founded in 1946. It has been putting out excellent speakers for decades, and the R-41SA is no different. When it comes to Dolby Atmos enabled speakers, they are some of the most affordable that you can buy. The relatively low price doesn't mean that the company had to sacrifice much in quality. In fact, I consider these one of the best height speakers that are currently available.

These speakers are made from medium density fiberboard, more commonly referred to as MDF. This is a material made from wood fibers and does an excellent job at reducing vibration of the speaker cabinet. It also plays an important part in improving the sonic accuracy of the speakers. This is a durable material, so you won't have to worry about the cabinets getting damaged easily.

The R-41SA utilizes a Linear Travel Suspension tweeter, which is a driver Klipsch is known for. This is an exclusive technology developed by the company to reduce distortion and provide detailed sound quality. Another thing that's great about these speakers is that they don't take up a lot of space. The speakers feature a 4-inch woofer that ensures the bass quality is excellent.

One downside to the R-41SA is that they are not wireless speakers. Unlike some of the height speakers on the market today, you will have to wire them up to an amplifier or an AV receiver.

    Pros:

    •     The R-41SA speakers are made from medium density fiberboard that reduces vibration of the cabinets.
    •     They feature a Klipsch-exclusive LTS tweeter that enhances the sound quality and reduces distortion.

    Cons:

    •     You will have to wire the R-41SA speakers to an AV receiver or an amplifier since they are not wireless.

Jamo is another speaker company that's been around for decades. It was established in 1966 and has since delivered outstanding speakers for a fair price. The S 8 ATM release provides people with a modern speaker design at an affordable price. The speakers come in two colors - black and white. They were designed to blend perfectly with the interior of a modern home.

These speakers come with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a sensitivity of 87 decibels. Just like the Klipsch R-41SA, the enclosure for these speakers was made from medium density fiberboard. In other words, the enclosure was designed to reduce unnecessary vibrations. These height speakers are compact in size and weigh only 5 pounds. They feature a fully magnetic grille that gives them a premium look.

The Jamo S 8 ATM speakers feature a front firing tube port that both maximizes placement options and improves low frequency extension. These are speakers that you should want to integrate into your sound system to get the Dolby Atmos experience. These are great add-ons to the Jamo 803, 807, and 809 speakers. You simply snap them into these models and you can experience the outstanding sound.

If you already have Jamo speakers or are at least interested in buying them, then I fully recommend you get the S 8 ATM. You shouldn't otherwise buy them since the only noticeable downside to this model is that it's not compatible with more speakers.

    Pros:

    •     The S 8 ATM speakers come with an elegant design that blends perfectly with the interior of a modern home.
    •     They come with a front firing tube port that improves low frequency extension and maximizes placement options.

    Cons:

    •     These speakers are not compatible with a lot of models.

SVS doesn't have the long tradition of Klipsch and Jamo since it was founded in 1998. Nevertheless, it did quickly develop an extraordinary reputation as an elite speaker company. The Prime Elevation model is a prime example (no pun intended) why SVS has been successful.

These speakers come equipped with the Multi-Purpose Wall Bracket technology that enables you to easily mount them to the ceiling or wall. The Prime Elevation features a simple and elegant design. The aesthetics are outstanding and will easily fit in with the interior of your home.

What you'll immediately notice about the Prime Elevation is that it comes with an angled design. You may at first think that this was done just so they look unique, but there's actually a pretty good reason for why they're this way. With an angled baffle comes a maximized number of placement options. There are three different colors to choose from when it comes to Prime Elevation, including piano black, black ash, and piano white.

The cabinet is made from medium density fiberboard, which is also featured in the Jamo S 8 ATM and the Klipsch R-41SA. The speakers are not as compact as the previously mentioned two models, but they are still quite small. They also weigh more, coming in at 8 pounds. Two precious drivers featured in the Prime Elevation include a 1-inch aluminum tweeter and a 4.5-inch polypropylene cone woofer.

The midrange driver is quite detailed and dynamic. It allows you to clearly hear the sounds and vocals in the content you're watching. The treble is also very clear and crisp. The nominal impedance of these speakers sits at 8 ohms.

    Pros:

    •     The speakers come with the Multi-Purpose Wall Bracket that allows you to easily mount them to the wall or ceiling.
    •     The midrange driver is dynamic and detailed, while the treble is crisp and clear.

Sony provides users with the Dolby Atmos surround sound experience through their SS-CSE speakers. There are two ways you can set up these speakers. The first is to place them atop your current speakers. The other is to mount them to a wall. If you decide to mount them to a wall, you should point them upward so that the sound bounces off the ceiling.

The design of the SS-CSE speakers is very clean and simple. And I say simple in the best way possible. The cabinet design doesn't feature any unnecessary details. These speakers come at an affordable price which is great news for anyone who wants to experience the Dolby Atmos sound on a budget.

The nominal impedance of the SS-CSE comes at 6 ohms. These speakers are quite compact and light. They weigh only 6 pounds and 10 ounces. The frequency range is listed at 70-32000 Hz, while the maximum input power is 100 watts per channel.

The speakers come with an MDF construction and feature a matte black finish. The design was likely made to resemble actual movie theater speakers. Considering the affordable price of the SS-CSE, it's truly amazing how immersive the sound they generate is. With that being said, you should not expect to hear premium-level sound from these speakers. They are outstanding for their price range, but there are better speakers out there including the SVS Prime Elevation.

The drivers featured in the SS-CSE model are designed to retain their shape under high pressure. This is made possible thanks to their mica-reinforced cellular cone design. In essence, they are more rigid than paper cones.

    Pros:

    •     The SS-CSE speakers are made to be easily mounted to a wall or placed on top of your current speakers.
    •     The drivers in these speakers are more rigid than paper cones due to their particular design, meaning they retain their shape even under high pressure.

    Cons:

    •     Although SS-CSE speakers are excellent for the price, there are premium models that are better.

ELAC is a loudspeaker company that has been around since 1926. Although it has a rich legacy, the company recently received widespread acclaim for their Debut series of speakers. The ELAC Debut 2.0 A4.2 Atmos Speakers is one of the best Dolby Atmos enabled speakers you can currently buy. All you have to do is add them to a floorstanding or bookshelf model to get the Dolby Atmos experience.

When the Debut series first came out, it drew a lot of interest. But the Debut 2.0 series managed to further improve on the quality that made the initial models popular. The incredible design of these speakers was developed by Andrew Jones. Andrew is a legendary loudspeaker designer who has since left ELAC but will always be notable for leaving such an incredible mark on this model.

The ELAC Debut 2.0 A4.2 Atmos Speakers are compact in size and weigh only 5.5 pounds. They come with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms and sensitivity rated at 85 decibels. The frequency response is measured at 180-20,000 Hz. These speakers feature a 0.5-inch polymer dome tweeter and a 4-inch woven aramid-fiber woofer. The woven aramid-fiber cones are notable for their superior stiffness-to-weight ratio.

The aesthetics are incredibly clean. In fact, these speakers feature the cleanest design out of any model mentioned on this list. To get the most out of the Dolby Atmos experience through the ELAC Debut 2.0 A4.2 Atmos Speakers, it's recommended that you get two pairs. You should have them set up in a way so that two speakers are in the front and two are in the back.

    Pros:

    •     The ELAC Debut 2.0 A4.2 Atmos Speakers feature a beautiful and clean design made by legendary designer Andrew Jones.
    •     These speakers come with woven aramid-fiber cones that provide superior stiffness-to-weight ratio.

    Cons:

    •     Some users have noted a small safety concern saying that the corners of the cabinets are too sharp.

How to find the best Dolby Atmos speakers?

How do you actually go about getting a Dolby Atmos system in your home? You will need to have at least a 5.1.2 system. What this means is that you will need five speakers in the room, a subwoofer, as well as two height speakers. Dolby also recommends that you have four or more height speakers for the full Atmos experience.

There are a few different attributes that you should pay attention to when deciding which speakers to buy, including:

    Sensitivity

This is a metric that is used to show how loud speakers can be. In other words, it shows how many decibels they can put out. If you're into powerful speakers, you should make sure to always check the sensitivity of the ones you're looking to buy. Powerful speakers have a sensitivity level of at least 90 decibels.

    Speaker Size

Don't rush into buying speakers before you check whether you have enough space for them in your home. It's a common mistake to neglect the size of the speakers when shopping online. Don't fall in love with a set of Dolby Atmos speakers before you determine whether there is enough space in your room for them, as it might make it harder for you to let go and find other speakers that you like.

    Impedance

Impedance is measured in ohms and shows how much opposition there is to the current flow in an electric circuit. In layman's terms, impedance shows you how efficiently sound can pass through speakers. It's always recommended to get speakers with impedance levels at 4, 6, or 8 ohms.

    Aesthetics

Last but not least, we have aesthetics. When you buy something that you'll use for years to come, like Dolby Atmos speakers you should make sure that you're absolutely in love with how they're designed. Remember that they will take up significant space and should complement the interior design of your home.

    FAQs

    What is Dolby Atmos?

Dolby Atmos is a surround sound technology that was created by Dolby Laboratories in 2012. The company considers this technology to be the most significant development in cinema audio since surround sound. It's a technology that allows sounds to be interpreted as three-dimensional objects through additional height channels.

How does Dolby Atmos technology work?

The way that Dolby Atmos technology works is by attaching sounds to objects. In fact, Dolby Atmos was the first cinematic audio format where the sounds existed as audio objects. Let's say that you're watching a movie and see a scene with a car crash. This car crash represents an independent audio object that is completely free of channel restrictions. Through audio objects, you're able to experience sound on a level that wasn't possible before the inception of Dolby Atmos.

Should I get Dolby Atmos speakers for my home theater?

Dolby Atmos enabled speakers are an excellent choice if you're looking to create a home theater. These speakers allow for more speaker positions than traditional home theater layouts. Getting Dolby Atmos enabled speakers is likely the closest you can get to experiencing a movie in a cinema.

What if I don't have enough space for a home theater?

There are many people who would like to have a home theater but simply don't have enough room for it. However, this doesn't mean that you'll be missing out on the Dolby Atmos experience. There are many different Dolby Atmos soundbars that you can find on the market today. They provide an excellent experience while not taking up a lot of space.

Are Dolby Atmos speakers worth it?

If you already have a home theater setup you're likely wondering whether you should upgrade to a Dolby Atmos system. Will there be any noticeable difference in the quality of sound? The answer is yes. There is a big difference in the experience you'll get from watching movies with a Dolby Atmos speaker system compared to any other home theater setup. The biggest advantage of Dolby Atmos enabled speakers is that they take immersive sound to a whole new level.
