Bluesound has unveiled three new digital music streamers: the NODE NANO, NODE, and NODE ICON. This new lineup represents a notable expansion in the company’s product offerings, providing a range of options from entry-level to high-end, catering to a diverse audience of audiophiles and music enthusiasts.
The NODE NANO, priced at $299 at Crutchfield, is the most affordable model in the new lineup. Designed to seamlessly integrate into existing HiFi systems, the NODE NANO offers a streamlined, compact solution for those looking to add wireless streaming capabilities without breaking the bank.
Despite its smaller footprint, the NODE NANO does not skimp on performance. It features an ESS SABRE DAC, known for its high-quality digital-to-analog conversion, capable of delivering audio with a resolution of up to 24-bit/192kHz.
While the NODE NANO is labeled as entry-level, it offers a variety of outputs, including RCA, coaxial, optical, and USB, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of audio systems. Additionally, it supports popular streaming protocols such as Apple AirPlay 2, aptX Adaptive Bluetooth, and Spotify Connect, making it a versatile addition to any setup.
However, it lacks some of the more advanced features found in its higher-end siblings, such as HDMI eARC and analog inputs, which may limit its use for more complex audio configurations.
The mid-range NODE, retailing at $549 at Crutchfield, is an updated version of Bluesound’s original wireless hi-res music streamer. This model features a re-engineered ESS SABRE ES9039Q2M DAC, which offers improved audio performance over previous iterations. The NODE is designed to provide an even more pristine signal path, thanks to revised circuitry aimed at reducing jitter and interference.
In addition to its DAC upgrade, the NODE includes a built-in THX AAA headphone amplifier, ensuring high-quality audio output even for demanding wired headphones. The device also features an HDMI eARC input, making it a convenient option for those looking to integrate their TV or gaming console into their HiFi system. The NODE supports DSD playback, further enhancing its appeal to audiophiles who require high-resolution audio formats.
The NODE retains the minimalist design of its predecessors, with touch-sensitive controls on the top panel and up to five programmable source presets. This model is set to be available for shipping starting September 24, 2024, with pre-orders already open.
At the top of the new lineup is the NODE ICON, priced at $999. This flagship model is designed to set a new standard in wireless music streaming, incorporating advanced features and components aimed at delivering the highest possible audio fidelity. Central to its design is a Dual-Mono DAC setup, utilizing two ESS SABRE ES9039Q2M chips, one for each channel, to ensure optimal stereo separation and minimal distortion.
The NODE ICON also features MQA Labs’ QRONO d2a technology, which corrects timing errors in the digital-to-analog conversion process, providing a more accurate and lifelike sound. This technology is a significant selling point for those who prioritize high-resolution audio playback.
In terms of design, the NODE ICON is housed in an aluminum chassis, complete with a 5-inch color display on the front. This display allows for easy navigation and control, while the device’s balanced XLR outputs provide professional-grade connectivity options. The NODE ICON also includes a range of digital and analog inputs and outputs, including HDMI eARC, making it one of the most versatile streamers on the market.
Pre-orders for the NODE ICON will begin on October 17, 2024, with shipping expected to start on November 15, 2024.
All three models are fully integrated into the BluOS ecosystem, Bluesound’s proprietary multi-room platform. This allows users to connect their streamers to other Bluesound devices throughout their home, creating a seamless, high-quality audio experience in every room. The streamers also support a wide range of smart home control systems, including Control4, Crestron, and RTI, ensuring that they can be easily integrated into existing home automation setups.
Additionally, the NODE and NODE ICON models offer the option to upgrade to Dirac Live Room Correction, a feature that allows users to fine-tune their audio setup to account for room acoustics. This feature, which requires a separate license and calibration kit, is particularly appealing for audiophiles seeking to optimize their listening environment.
