Marantz has expanded its audio lineup with the introduction of two high-end wireless speakers, the Marantz Horizon and its larger counterpart, the Marantz Grand Horizon. Known for its history of crafting receivers, amplifiers and other high-performance audio products, Marantz has now ventured into the luxury wireless speaker market, offering designs aimed at listeners seeking both advanced sound technology and elegant aesthetics.
The Marantz Horizon and Grand Horizon are visually striking, incorporating signature design elements that align with the brand’s long-standing focus on blending form and function. Both models feature the iconic circular porthole motif, which has been reimagined as a central part of each speaker’s design.
Surrounding the speakers is a custom-made fabric, Marantz Radiance, which is not only sustainably sourced from recycled ocean plastics but also aesthetically distinctive, with gold lurex fibers woven in to create a subtle glow.
Each speaker sits on a natural marble base, with color options including Midnight Sky, Moon Ray, and the classic Marantz Champagne. For those seeking more flexibility in their setup, Marantz offers additional accessories such as an American walnut tripod stand and wall brackets, ensuring the speakers can be integrated seamlessly into any room.
At the core of both the Horizon and Grand Horizon speakers is Marantz’s proprietary Rise amplification technology. This system is built on GaN FET technology, which is known for its responsiveness and thermal efficiency. The Marantz Horizon delivers an output of 310 watts, while the Grand Horizon steps up to 370 watts, making both models suitable for filling large spaces with high-quality sound.
The speaker configurations are designed to provide a full-range audio experience. The Horizon is equipped with a 165mm subwoofer, complemented by two 25mm silk-dome tweeters and three 50mm full-range drivers.
The Grand Horizon, being the larger of the two, features a more powerful 200mm subwoofer, along with three 25mm tweeters and four 76mm midrange drivers. Together, these components deliver a balanced soundstage that can handle a variety of music genres, from bass-heavy tracks to more detailed, high-frequency audio.
One of the key features of the Horizon series is the Marantz Mirage DSP, which allows users to fine-tune the speaker’s sound characteristics. Available through the HEOS app, the digital signal processing offers options to adjust clarity, warmth, and soundstage, catering to different personal preferences and listening environments.
For users seeking a preset experience, there is also a “Sound Master” mode, which allows the speakers to reproduce sound exactly as Marantz Sound Master Yoshinori Ogata intended.
Both models come equipped with Marantz AuraControl, a user interface that integrates 100 hidden LEDs. These LEDs, along with proximity and ambient light sensors, create a dynamic light display that responds to the listener’s interactions. For instance, as someone approaches the speaker, the proximity sensors activate, bringing the speaker’s controls to life.
In terms of connectivity, the Marantz Horizon and Grand Horizon offer extensive options. Built around the HEOS wireless platform, both models support a wide array of streaming services, including Amazon Music, Deezer, Spotify, and TIDAL. The speakers also offer compatibility with Apple AirPlay2 and Bluetooth, making them accessible from mobile devices.
For those who prefer physical media, the speakers come with multiple input options. These include analog, optical, and HDMI inputs, alongside a USB-C port for local music playback. Onboard Dolby decoding further enhances the versatility of the speakers, ensuring they are fully compatible with Dolby Atmos when connected via HDMI.
As part of the broader HEOS ecosystem, the Horizon speakers can be integrated into a multi-room audio setup. This means users can link the Horizon and Grand Horizon with other HEOS-enabled products throughout their home, providing synchronized sound across multiple spaces. Additionally, users can pair two speakers together to create a stereo setup, further enhancing the listening experience in larger rooms.
