LAS VEGAS, April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ushering in the era of 4K Ultra HD TV broadcasting, a new system co-developed by LG Electronics called FUTURECAST will deliver Ultra HDTV - with four times the resolution of today's HDTV - and mobile TV signals over-the-air. In LG's U.S. R&D Lab in Lincolnshire, Ill., engineers from the LG Creative Innovation Center in Seoul (left to right) Jin Woo Kim, Woo Chan Kim and Sung Kyong Hong evaluate the first closed circuit FUTURECAST transmission, allowing Ultra HD, mobile, and fixed reception in a single 6 MHz channel. The FUTURECAST Universal Terrestrial Broadcasting System, a leading contributor to the physical layer of the emerging ATSC 3.0 standard, is designed to provide the optimized combination of broadcasting capabilities for fixed, portable and mobile use. FUTURECAST will be demonstrated publicly for the first time next Monday in the GatesAir booth (N609) at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas.
