Cambridge Audio, a famous British audio brand, has just revealed its latest addition to the CXN series, the CXN100 Network Player. This announcement follows the success of its predecessor, the CXN V2, and promises a significant leap in performance and functionality.
The CXN100 is not merely an upgrade; it has undergone a complete mechanical redesign with the aim of delivering an enhanced audio experience to music enthusiasts. The new model boasts several innovative electronic components, including a state-of-the-art DAC (digital-to-analog converter), high-quality capacitors, and upgraded op-amps.
Additionally, Cambridge Audio has introduced its latest Gen4 StreamMagic module to power the player, demonstrating its effort to remain at the forefront of audio technology.
“It’s fitting that 2023 saw our iconic CXN V2 inducted into the What Hi-Fi? Hall of Fame, commemorating a remarkable reign as the best streamer in its class. Because even with CXN V2 still on the throne, we’ve not rested on our laurels,” says James Johnson-Flint, owner of Cambridge Audio. “We’ve taken the next step, and CXN100 represents the next generation of network player. It’s here to take the crown.”
One of the most notable improvements in the CXN100 is the use of the ESS ES9028Q2M SABRE32 Reference DAC, which represents a significant advancement from the Wolfson DAC found in the CXN V2. This DAC is capable of handling high-resolution audio up to 32-bit/768kHz, providing a substantial boost in audio quality. Moreover, the precision of the DAC's timing filter eliminates the need for a post-DAC filter, simplifying the signal path and ensuring jitter-free audio.
Further enhancements have been made to the analog stage after the DAC, incorporating upgraded capacitors and op-amps to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio and reduce distortion. This detailed tuning process shows Cambridge Audio's dedication to delivering an exceptional audio experience.
The CXN100 network player is equipped with Cambridge Audio's Gen4 StreamMagic module, which is also featured in their EVO 150 and EVO 75 all-in-one digital players. This module enables seamless integration with popular streaming services like Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz, and Deezer. Additionally, users can enjoy access to millions of high-resolution tracks, podcasts, and internet radio stations, thanks to MPEG-DASH support.
For connectivity options, the CXN100 offers versatility. Users can connect their devices via USB, Coaxial, TOSLINK, or wirelessly through Chromecast, AirPlay 2, or Bluetooth. The player also features analog outputs in the form of balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA sockets.
Controlling the CXN100 is user-friendly, with the option to use the StreamMagic app on smartphones or tablets. Alternatively, it can be controlled using the CX Series system remote, which comes with CX Series amplifiers and the CXC CD Transport.
Cambridge Audio has also improved the user interface of the CXN100, featuring a larger 4.76-inch high-resolution color screen on the front panel, allowing users to view album artwork and track information more clearly from a distance.
