Cambridge Audio Unveils Melomania P100: 60-Hour Battery Life and Class A/B Amplification

Cambridge Audio has entered the over-ear headphone market with the launch of its new Melomania P100, offering a range of advanced features aimed at delivering high-quality audio.

Cambridge Audio Unveils Melomania P100: 60-Hour Battery Life and Class A/B Amplification

Cambridge Audio has introduced its first over-ear wireless headphones, the Melomania P100, designed to deliver a high-quality audio experience with a range of advanced features. Set to compete with established brands in the market, the Melomania P100 brings an impressive battery life, active noise cancellation, and premium sound quality.

One of the main features of the Melomania P100 is its impressive battery life. The headphones offer up to 60 hours of playtime with active noise cancellation (ANC) enabled, which matches the performance of the Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 4 and significantly surpasses the 30-hour battery life of the Sony WH-1000XM5. When ANC is turned off, the P100 can provide up to 100 hours of playback, making it one of the longest-lasting wireless headphones on the market.

Charging the headphones is quick and convenient. A mere five minutes of charging can yield two hours of playback with ANC on, or four hours without ANC. This quick-charge capability ensures that even when the battery is low, users won't be left without their music for long.

The Melomania P100 incorporates a three-layer driver composite made of PEEK (polyether ether ketone), PU (polyurethane), and PEEK, designed to deliver deep, controlled bass, realistic vocals, and clear treble.

These drivers are paired with Class A/B amplification, a feature typically reserved for high-end hi-fi equipment. This type of amplification is known for producing superior sound quality compared to the more common Class D amplifiers found in most wireless headphones.

Cambridge Audio has integrated Qualcomm's Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless wireless technology into the P100, allowing for CD-quality wireless playback. This feature is particularly beneficial for users with smartphones that support the Snapdragon Sound platform, although the headphones also support aptX Adaptive, SBC, and AAC codecs for broader compatibility.

The Melomania P100 offers three levels of active noise cancellation, catering to different listening environments. Additionally, the headphones feature a transparency mode, which allows users to hear ambient sounds without removing the headphones.

For connectivity, the P100 supports Bluetooth 5.3 with Bluetooth Multipoint, enabling simultaneous connections to two devices. This feature is useful for users who frequently switch between their phone and computer. The headphones also provide options for wired connections via USB-C to 3.5mm jack or USB-C to USB-C, accommodating a variety of devices including Android phones and the iPhone 15.

Users can customize the sound of the Melomania P100 using the Melomania Connect app, which is available for both iOS and Android devices. The app features a seven-band equalizer with six presets, allowing users to tailor the sound to their preferences. The app also includes a gaming mode that reduces wireless latency to 80ms, making the headphones suitable for gaming and watching TV.

Comfort is another area where the P100 should excel as the headphones are equipped with memory foam earcup pads covered in faux leather, designed for extended wear. Cambridge Audio has also focused on the clamping force of the headphones, aiming to make them comfortable for a wide range of head sizes. Both the earcup pads and the battery are user-replaceable, which is a rare feature in wireless headphones and contributes to the product's longevity.

Sustainability has been a key consideration in the design of the Melomania P100. The headphones are made with 50% recycled plastic and aluminum, and the drivers use recycled neodymium. The packaging is 100% recyclable and plastic-free. The earcup pads are made from vegan leather, further emphasizing the company's commitment to environmentally friendly materials.

The Cambridge Audio Melomania P100 is available in black or white finishes and will be on sale starting July 15th for $299. They can be purchased directly from Cambridge Audio's website or through Amazon. P100 joins the recently launched M100 true wireless earphones to form the new Melomania range for 2024.
