Campfire Audio, a Portland-based company known for its high-end in-ear monitors (IEMs), such as Moon Roover and Fathom, has officially launched its latest offering, the Astrolith IEMs. Targeted at serious music enthusiasts, the Astrolith promises to deliver an exceptional audio experience with its advanced technology and impressive design.

One of the most striking features of the Astrolith IEMs is their aesthetic appeal. The shells are crafted from stainless steel and hand-polished to a mirror finish, giving them a sleek and luxurious look. The design incorporates Campfire’s new Additive Acoustic Optical Inclusion (AAOI) housing.

This not only enhances the visual appeal with a gem-like effect but also contributes significantly to the acoustic performance of the IEMs. The transparent exterior allows visibility of the internal chambers, creating a unique interplay of light and structure.

The Astrolith IEMs are equipped with an impressive driver setup. Each earpiece houses a custom 14.2mm planar magnetic driver designed to cover sub-low, low, and midrange frequencies, and a custom 6mm planar magnetic driver dedicated to high frequencies. Unlike many other multi-driver earphones that rely on crossovers to split frequencies, the company has developed a design that does not use a traditional crossover. Campfire Audio claims that the Astrolith IEMs offer the most refined and enhanced acoustic shaping available in the market. The use of planar magnetic drivers is a key factor in achieving this. Planar drivers are known for their ability to produce a fast and accurate response, ensuring that the music retains its clarity and detail across the entire frequency spectrum.

The Astrolith’s impulse response is particularly noteworthy. Impulse response refers to the ability of the drivers to react quickly to audio signals and stop promptly, preventing any overlap or smearing of notes. This results in a dynamic and precise sound, where each note is distinctly audible without any muddling.

The Astrolith IEMs boast a frequency response range of 5Hz to 25kHz, an impedance of 8.2 ohms at 1kHz, and a sensitivity of 94dB at 1kHz and 44.90 mVrms.
