Cary Audio has announced that its DMS-500 network audio player will now support playback of MQA files. You can learn more about MQA here, but essentially it is a method of folding a higher-resolution file into a package that is no bigger than a standard 44.1/16 FLAC file. The DMS-500 will be the first MQA partner to use 16x rendering, the benefits of which are described below. Current owners of the DMS-500 can add MQA support through a free firmware update.
From Cary Audio
Cary Audio is pleased to announce our partnership with MQA (Master Quality Authenticated). Our DMS-500 network audio player is the first Cary Audio product in the range to be MQA certified. What makes this partnership especially exciting is that the Cary Audio DMS-500 is MQA's first partner product to use MQA 16x rendering. This means all MQA files are decoded within the DMS-500 to an astonishing 705.6 kHz (44.1 X 16) or 768 kHz (48 x 16). With the DMS-500 and MQA's 16x rendering, MQA files will take you back to the original master recording and capture the missing timing detail. The result is amazing. Every nuance and subtlety of the artist's performance, every tiny drop of emotion is authentically reproduced. When you listen, you'll be transported right into the very moment of creation.
All DMS-500 units shipping as of this announcement will have MQA pre-installed. Current owners of the DMS-500 with firmware versions 1.27.7 or later can update their unit free of charge using the DMS-500 internet update features to bring their DMS-500 up to date with the new MQA firmware. Any DMS-500 with firmware earlier then 1.27.7 can update their DMS-500 following the instructions on the DMS-500 product web page.
