Conrad-Johnson was founded by Dr. William Conrad and Dr. Lewis Johnson. The company has produced some of the world's most highly regarded amplifiers, preamplifiers, and CD players since 1977, utilizing a variety of tube, solid state, hybrid, and FET-based designs.
"CJ", as they are known from their enthusiasts, also had a brand in the 1980's called Motif that is no longer marketed.
Conrad-Johnson's "ART" dual-chassis preamp is considered to this day to be one of the best stereo preamps ever made, despite being released in 1996. Many of its groundbreaking technologies have trickled down to today's best Conrad-Johnson audio preamps.
