Cyrus Audio has unveiled the Classic Phono, an updated iteration of its acclaimed Phono Signature preamplifier. Promising enhanced performance without an increase in price, the Classic Phono preamplifier aims to cater to the discerning needs of audiophiles while maintaining affordability.
The Phono Signature, introduced in 2016 with a price tag of £1,895 (around $2400), quickly gained recognition for its exceptional quality and advanced features. Now, the Classic Phono builds upon its predecessor's success, offering improvements in various areas while retaining the same competitive pricing.
Following a rigorous year-long research and development process, Cyrus Audio has refined the Classic Phono to deliver superior performance in several key aspects. Much like its predecessor, the Classic Phono preamplifier boasts the capability to accommodate up to four turntables simultaneously, allowing users to seamlessly switch between different setups.
Each input can be tailored to match the specific cartridge type (MM or MC) or individual preferences, with options for gain, resistance, and capacitance adjustments.
“We wanted to make sure that an update to this popular phono stage did not unnecessarily push up the price and that it remained very much a part of the new Classic series," said Chris Hutcheson, Head of Marketing at Cyrus.
"A year of work from our R&D team has enabled us to re-examine all areas of the Phono Signature and carry out updates where possible. The baseplate has also been updated in line with the Classic AMP, PRE, STREAM and POWER, which provides improved mechanical isolation as well as greater immunity to external electrical interference, which is vitally important when it comes to the accurate reproduction of audio.”
One notable feature of the Classic Phono preamplifier is its incorporation of balanced XLR connections alongside RCA outputs, providing versatility in connectivity. Additionally, the inclusion of a port for the PSX-R2 power supply offers the possibility of further enhancing stability and reducing noise, catering to audiophiles seeking optimal sound quality.
The Classic Phono preamplifier retains the warp filter functionality found in its predecessor, designed to mitigate bass excursion on warped records, along with a ground lift switch to address ground hum issues effectively.
Furthermore, the integration of the same baseplate used in Cyrus Audio's Classic series models ensures improved mechanical isolation and resistance to external electrical interference, resulting in more accurate audio reproduction.
