Deep Bass, Small Package? Q Acoustics’ New Subwoofers Might Surprise You!

Q Acoustics has introduced its latest lineup of subwoofers, the Q SUB series, designed to bring deep, impactful bass to home audio and theater setups. Whether you're looking to enhance a 2.1 stereo system, a full-fledged 7.2 surround sound setup, or a pair of powered speakers, this new trio of subwoofers—Q SUB80 (8-inch), Q SUB100 (10-inch), and Q SUB120 (12-inch)—promises flexibility and performance.

Subwoofers can sometimes be tricky to integrate into a home system, but Q Acoustics has built the Q SUB series with ease of placement and system integration in mind. Each model is housed in a sealed (infinite baffle) cabinet, a design choice that helps tighten bass response and allows for more placement options—like near walls or corners—without the unwanted booming effect you sometimes get from ported subwoofers.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP) plays a big role in this lineup, automatically optimizing bass output to match the input source and room environment. The low-pass filter is adjustable, making it easier to blend the subwoofer with different types of speakers, from compact bookshelf models to floor-standing towers.

Beyond just filling a room with bass, the Q SUB series is packed with tech that enhances efficiency and sound accuracy:

  • Custom Digital Power Amplifier – Each subwoofer uses a four-stage digital power amplifier in a parallel bridge-tied load (PBTL) configuration. Simply put, this design improves power efficiency, reduces heat, and tightens speaker control.
  • Power Handling – These subs pack a punch, with up to 300W continuous power and 600W peak power, while keeping distortion levels below 0.1%, even at full output.
  • Driver Construction – Built for durability and precision, the bass drivers feature heavy-duty steel chassis, paper cones, and rubber surrounds. The Q SUB80 and Q SUB100 use 38mm voice coils, while the larger Q SUB120 steps up to a 50mm coil for more low-frequency impact.
  • Cabinet Design – The MDF construction (18mm thick with a 36mm front baffle) minimizes vibrations and unwanted resonance, while internal dart-bracing keeps everything stable under pressure.

Placing a subwoofer in the right spot is only part of the equation—getting it to sync properly with the rest of your system is just as important. The Q SUB series tackles this with advanced DSP calibration, allowing users to fine-tune delay, phase alignment, and crossover settings. Whether your sub is in the corner or closer to your main speakers, you can adjust it for better bass accuracy.

The automatic source detection feature also comes in handy. It recognizes whether the input is stereo or mono, adjusts the system gain accordingly, and ensures optimal signal-to-noise levels—meaning you don’t have to constantly tweak settings.

There are also multiple standby modes to help with energy efficiency. Auto detection wakes the sub when an audio signal is detected and puts it back in standby mode after 20 minutes of inactivity. If you want the sub to stay on at all times, there’s a manual power option, and for home theater users, a 12V trigger input allows it to power on and off in sync with an AV receiver.

Aesthetically, Q Acoustics has kept things clean and minimal, so these subs won’t look out of place in a modern living space. The Q SUB series comes in two finishes: Satin Black (with a black grille) and Satin White (with a grey grille), giving users options that fit different room styles.

These new models join the existing 3060S subwoofer, expanding Q Acoustics’ low-frequency lineup.
