Technics has just introduced its newest flagship wireless earbuds, the EAH-AZ100, at CES 2025. Priced at $299.99, these earbuds are packed with fresh features designed to improve sound quality, noise cancellation, and overall usability. The EAH-AZ100 earned the Best of CES award from us, thanks to its exceptional sound quality and a wide array of customizable features.
This launch also coincides with a big milestone for the brand: its 60th anniversary. With decades of experience in high-fidelity audio, Technics is diving deeper into the wireless earbud market, aiming to stand out in a crowded space.
The standout feature of the AZ100 is its Magnetic Fluid Driver. If you’re wondering what that means, it’s essentially a thin layer of oil-like liquid filled with magnetic particles placed between the driver magnet and voice coil. This setup reduces distortion and helps deliver clear, detailed sound. The earbuds use a 10mm driver with an ultra-thin aluminum diaphragm, which Technics claims produces deep bass and crisp highs.
Interestingly, the earbuds’ frequency response starts as low as 3Hz, which is far below the standard range for most headphones. While you may not hear sounds at that frequency, you might feel them—potentially creating a more immersive experience.
If you’re familiar with the EAH-AZ80 which we reviewed in 2023, Technics’ previous flagship, the AZ100 takes things up a notch. It introduces Adaptive ANC, which automatically adjusts the level of noise cancellation based on your surroundings. Whether you’re on a noisy train or in a quiet office, the earbuds adapt to deliver the best performance.
For phone calls, Technics has added Voice Focus AI, which uses three microphones in each earbud to block out background noise like wind and traffic while amplifying your voice. The goal? Clearer calls no matter where you are. There’s also a new Conversation Mode that lets you hear people around you without needing to take the earbuds out—perfect for a quick chat at the coffee shop.
Technics didn’t just improve the tech; it also refined the design. The AZ100 earbuds are 10% smaller and 16% lighter than their predecessors, making them more comfortable for extended wear. With five ear tip sizes to choose from, including a new medium-large option, you’re likely to find a fit that works for you.
The “concha-fit” design, which was a highlight of the AZ80, has also been tweaked to make sure the earbuds stay securely in place.
Battery life has gotten a boost as well. The AZ100 can last up to 10 hours on a single charge with noise cancellation on, and the wireless charging case adds another 18 hours, bringing the total to 28 hours. That’s a noticeable improvement over the AZ80’s runtime.
Connectivity is another strong point. The earbuds support triple-device Bluetooth multipoint, which means you can connect them to three devices simultaneously—handy for switching between your phone, laptop, and tablet without hassle.
They also come with Bluetooth LE Audio, LDAC for high-resolution audio, and Auracast, which allows you to share audio with multiple devices. Features like Google Fast Pair make pairing with Android devices quick and easy.
Technics is no stranger to audio innovation. From its iconic SL-1200 turntables to high-end hi-fi equipment, the brand has a rich history. With the EAH-AZ100, Technics is bringing that expertise to wireless earbuds, competing with major players like Bose, Sony, and Apple. Features like Dolby Atmos spatial audio with head tracking show how serious the brand is about creating an immersive listening experience. The Technics EAH-AZ100 is available now in black or silver finishes.
