FiiO has introduced its latest product, the K11 R2R, a desktop DAC and headphone amplifier. This new addition to their lineup showcases advanced technology aimed at enhancing audio quality for desktop users. The K11 R2R is positioned as an upgrade from its predecessor, the K11, and brings several significant improvements, making it a noteworthy option for audiophiles.
The FiiO K11 R2R stands out primarily due to its integration of a four-channel, fully differential 24-bit Resistor-to-Resistor (R2R) DAC. This technology, developed in-house by FiiO, promises a smoother and more natural sound. The device supports high-resolution audio formats, including 32-bit/384kHz files and native DSD256, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of audio sources.
One of the notable features of the K11 R2R is its extensive connectivity options. It includes multiple input types such as USB Type-C, optical, and coaxial inputs, catering to various digital audio sources. For output, it offers headphone jacks for both 6.35mm and 4.4mm connections, along with an RCA stereo line-out for integrating with home audio systems. This flexibility ensures that users can connect the K11 R2R to a variety of devices and setups.
At the heart of the FiiO K11 R2R is its innovative DAC design. Each channel incorporates 48 precision thin-film resistor arrays, resulting in a total of 192 resistors. These resistors feature a 0.1% tolerance and low-temperature drift (30ppm), contributing to lower noise levels and reduced harmonic distortion. This design is intended to deliver a rich and highly musical sound signature, appealing to discerning listeners.
Complementing the DAC is a four-channel electronic volume controller. This component is designed to provide low distortion and noise, enabling precise volume adjustments.
The K11 R2R offers three independent gain levels and volume curves (High, Medium, and Low), making it suitable for driving a wide range of headphones, from sensitive in-ear monitors to high-impedance over-ear models.
The FiiO K11 R2R offers two distinct playback modes: Non-Oversampling (NOS) and Over-Sampling (OS). The NOS mode maintains the original sampling rate of the audio file, providing an unaltered listening experience. In contrast, the OS mode up-samples the audio to a maximum of 384kHz, potentially enhancing audio quality for some users.
FiiO has designed the K11 R2R with user convenience in mind. The device features a multi-function volume knob that also serves as a power switch and menu control. Users can switch between Line Out (LO), Pre-out, and Power Out (PO) modes by double-pressing the knob, allowing for seamless integration with different audio setups.
A 1.1-inch VA display on the K11 R2R provides real-time information about the audio files being played. Additionally, the device includes an RGB-illuminated FiiO logo that indicates the sampling rate of the current audio file. The brightness, color, and lighting patterns of this logo are fully adjustable, offering a customizable visual element.
Technical Specifications:
The FiiO K11 R2R will be available in two color options: Obsidian Black and Midnight Silver. It is set to launch in late July with a price tag of $169 / £149. A red variant of the device is expected to be released later in the year, providing additional aesthetic choices for consumers. The previous model, K11 is available at Amazon for $129.99.
