Focal just showed the Sub Air wireless subwoofer at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show. Reportedly, the Sub Air can be setup and working within minutes of being unpacked. The form factor has been rethought and redesigned to make the Sub Air compact.
Cloud-based music, streaming, and general file based music players have had a major impact on playback systems. Then the demand for miniaturization has led the industry to offer more compact solutions with limited bass performance. Then came the solution to overcome this deficiency; add a subwoofer. Subwoofers are, generally, plain boxes connected by long cables and seen by many as intrusive to the home decor.
Sub Air is a subwoofer with a 21cm woofer, bass reflex loaded for better efficiency, and modern amplification of 150 watts. The form factor has been redesigned to make it compact. The lacquer finishes makes it more attractive, particularly as it allows easy integration of the subwoofer; either floor standing or wall mounted.
The wireless is acheived with a wireless radio link. A small discreet transmixtter box connects to the rear of the amplifier and links by radio to the Sub Air.
The Focal Sub Air will be available in April 2013 at a price around $700.
