From Coconut Husk to Crystal-Clear Sound: Meet Acoustic Energy’s 300 Series

British loudspeaker brand Acoustic Energy is shaking up the mid-range market with its all-new 300 Series, inspired by its flagship Corinium project.

From Coconut Husk to Crystal-Clear Sound: Meet Acoustic Energy’s 300 Series

Acoustic Energy has unveiled the next generation of its 300 Series loudspeakers. Designed to bring a mix of cutting-edge tech and refined aesthetics to a mid-range price point, this new lineup takes cues from the company’s flagship Corinium project and promises to deliver an elevated listening experience for music lovers and home theater enthusiasts alike.

The new 300 Series is a complete redesign from the ground up. Unlike the previous iteration from 2018, there are no shared components between the old and new models. Every element has been reimagined, and the result is a lineup that combines innovative features typically found in higher-end speakers with an accessible price range.

Here’s what the lineup includes:

  • AE300²: A compact stand-mount speaker.
  • AE309²: A three-way floorstander.
  • AE320²: A larger, four-way floorstander.
  • AE307²: A center-channel speaker, perfect for home theater setups.

The main feature of the new 300 Series is its all-new mid-woofer. Made from a blend of paper and coconut husk, this driver is designed to deliver a natural, warm sound with clarity and depth. It also maintains the dynamic punch that Acoustic Energy speakers are known for, offering a balanced and engaging audio experience.

The soft-dome tweeter is another highlight. Developed during the Corinium project, this tweeter is all about delivering high frequencies that feel open, smooth, and natural. When paired with the mid-woofer, the result is a seamless sound that flows beautifully across the frequency range.

Acoustic Energy has brought its Resonance Suppression Composite (RSC) technology to the 300 Series cabinets—a first for this price range. This advanced design minimizes unwanted vibrations and resonance, so you get cleaner, more accurate sound without interference.

The cabinets are slimmer and more compact, giving them a sleek, modern profile. The AE307² center speaker, in particular, stands out with its shallow, sealed cabinet and passive radiator, making it a practical choice for wall mounting in a home cinema setup.

The 300 Series also gets an aesthetic makeover. Gone are the glossy finishes of the previous generation. In their place is a durable "silk-touch" matte finish, available in walnut, black, or white.

The matte look is not only more modern but also resistant to smudges and scratches—practical and stylish. Floor-standing models include solid aluminum feet for added stability, and all speakers feature premium grille fabrics that match the cabinet finish for a cohesive design.

Mat Spandl, Managing Director of Acoustic Energy, commented on the design process, saying: “The development of the new 300 Series has been a journey of innovation and discovery. By leveraging the insights from our Corinium project, we have been able to push the boundaries of what is possible in loudspeaker design at this price point. Our goal was to create a speaker that not only delivers exceptional sound quality but also integrates seamlessly into modern living spaces. We believe the new 300 Series achieves this and more.”

Sitting between Acoustic Energy’s entry-level 100 Series and the high-end 500 Series, the 300 Series offers a solid middle ground for anyone looking to upgrade their sound system. Prices start at approximately $800 (£649) for the AE300² stand-mount speakers and go up to around $2,460 (£1,999) for the AE320² floorstanders.

The new speakers will hit UK stores in February, with availability in other regions, including the US, expected to follow soon.
