Premium Audio Company (PAC) has introduced a comprehensive firmware update for 19 AV receivers across four major brands: Pioneer, Elite, Onkyo, and Integra. This significant rollout, which began on October 28 and will continue for some models through November 18, includes enhancements for streaming services like Amazon Music and Tidal, improved functionality with Dirac room-tuning, and Google Cast 2.0 updates.
The receivers benefiting from these updates include several models from each brand. Notably, Pioneer's VSA-LX805, VSX-LX505, VSX-LX305, and VSX-935; Onkyo’s TX-RZ70, TX-RZ50, TX-NR7100, TX-NR6100, TX-NR5100, TX-NR6050, and TX-8470; Integra’s DRX-8.4, DRX-5.4, DRX-3.4, and DTM-7.4; and Elite’s VSX-LX805, VSX-LX505, VSX-LX305, and VSX-LX105 are among those included. Each receiver will receive specific upgrades based on its existing capabilities and previous updates.
One of the prominent features of this update is the enhancement of audio streaming options for Amazon Music and Tidal, bringing high-resolution and immersive sound options to eligible receivers. Owners of models like the Onkyo TX-RZ50, Integra DRX-5.4, and Pioneer VSX-LX305, among others, can now access Amazon Music HD’s highest-quality Ultra HD streaming, allowing up to 24-bit/192kHz playback.
Additionally, Dolby Atmos Music playback is now supported for both Amazon Music HD and Tidal, enhancing spatial audio experiences and bringing immersive sound to users’ homes.
Tidal Max support, which allows streaming of high-fidelity tracks at 24-bit/192kHz in FLAC format, has also been added for a range of models, including the Onkyo TX-RZ70, Integra DRX-8.4, Elite VSX-LX805, and Pioneer VSA-LX805. By integrating these updates into compatible smartphone apps, PAC offers users a wider selection of high-quality music streaming options.
For users leveraging Google’s casting technology, the new firmware updates offer support for Google Cast 2.0. This feature enhances network connection stability and allows users to connect their receivers to compatible devices with minimal setup adjustments. The latest Google Cast 2.0 integration is available on select Onkyo, Integra, Pioneer, and Elite models, including the Onkyo TX-RZ50, Integra DRX-5.4, and Elite VSX-LX505.
PAC’s update introduces Dirac Live Bass Control, a bass management feature designed to improve the audio experience by synchronizing multiple subwoofers to achieve optimal bass response.
Users of the Onkyo TX-RZ50 and Integra DRX-5.4 models can purchase a license for the Dirac Live Bass Control Single Version through the Dirac Live Store, allowing for precise bass adjustments. The company also addressed measurement errors within the Dirac Live feature on several models, making it easier for users to complete the room tuning process.
For users who rely on their receivers for gaming and other HDR content, PAC has introduced Source-Based Tone Mapping (SBTM) for HDMI 2.1a on compatible models. This feature enables HDR-capable devices, such as gaming consoles, to perform tone mapping adjustments rather than relying solely on the TV.
This advancement aims to improve contrast and detail in high-action and visually rich gameplay scenarios. The models receiving SBTM support include the Onkyo TX-RZ50, Integra DRX-5.4, and Pioneer VSX-LX305, offering a tailored experience for users seeking enhanced visual performance.
Among the more understated updates, PAC has modified the amplifier power supply sequence to improve relay sound in a silent state, enhancing the overall listening experience by reducing any audible relay switching noises. This update applies to select models such as the Onkyo TX-RZ50, Integra DRX-5.4, and Elite VSX-LX505. This subtle but valuable improvement underscores PAC's attention to refining the everyday user experience with its audio products.
The firmware updates are available through automatic notifications on eligible devices connected to the internet, making the update process seamless for users. For those with non-connected receivers, PAC has provided an option to download the firmware from its websites and install it via USB. Updates can be accessed on Onkyo, Pioneer, and Elite models through the on-screen display and front panel, while Integra models allow for firmware updates via the “Setup Firmware Menu.”
