Fyne Audio has introduced its Vintage Classic Gold SP Series, a lineup of loudspeakers that combines retro-inspired design with modern audio tech. Made in the company’s Glasgow facility, this new series sits between their Classic and Vintage ranges, offering a stylish and high-performing option for audiophiles who want the best of both worlds.
Drawing inspiration from the golden age of Hi-Fi, the Vintage Classic Gold SP retains the rectangular cabinet design characteristic of the 1960s and 1970s. However, these cabinets are constructed from high-density birch ply, a significant upgrade from the fiberboard used in the Classic Series.
The material not only reduces resonance but also ensures greater rigidity, contributing to the speakers’ overall sound clarity. Internally, the cabinets are extensively braced and damped, minimizing unwanted vibrations and internal reflections.
The aesthetic appeal of the Gold SP is further enhanced by a luxurious walnut veneer and gold-anodized metal accents. Each model is hand-finished, with details like gold adjustment knobs on the front panel that allow users to fine-tune the high-frequency energy and presence to suit their room acoustics and personal taste.
At the heart of the Gold SP Series is Fyne Audio’s advanced IsoFlare driver system, designed to deliver consistent sound dispersion. This point-source driver aligns the bass and midrange driver with the high-frequency unit, ensuring uniform audio quality across the listening space.
The smallest model in the series, the Gold VIII SP, features an 8-inch driver with a magnesium dome tweeter. The larger models—the Gold X SP, XII SP, and XV SP—use titanium dome compression tweeters coupled with powerful neodymium magnets. These enhancements extend the frequency range and reduce distortion, providing a smoother and more immersive listening experience.
Each driver also incorporates FyneFlute surround technology, which eliminates energy mis-termination and reduces coloration, ensuring precise bass and midrange performance.
Fyne Audio’s Gold SP Series uses the clever BassTrax Tractrix diffuser system to deliver impressively even bass. This unique design takes the low-frequency energy and spreads it out in a 360-degree wave, filling the room with balanced sound. Plus, it’s less fussy about where you place the speakers, so you get great bass performance without needing the perfect setup.
The crossover networks in the Gold SP Series have been carefully designed using premium components such as polypropylene capacitors and precision resistors. Each crossover undergoes Deep Cryogenic Treatment (DCT) to improve material consistency and signal transparency. These components ensure seamless frequency separation, resulting in a natural and dynamic soundstage.
Gold-plated ETI terminals and Neotech PC-OCC internal wiring are used throughout the series, enhancing conductivity and signal integrity. The speakers also feature bi-wiring and grounding options, catering to the preferences of audiophiles seeking optimal customization.
David Schultz, the president of Harmonia Distribution, which distributes Fyne Audio in North America, says, “Fyne Audio recognizes and responds to every customer niche, and has a product that is tailor-made for varied sonic and aesthetic tastes. I love how Gold SP captures the customer with a mid-level budget and next-level expectations. This line will open up a whole new market for our dealers.”
The Vintage Classic Gold SP Series includes four models, each catering to different preferences and room sizes:
