Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen just announced the availability of two new extenders for computers and displays using DVI. Each offers a unique method of extension and support for the delivery of DVI with RS-232 over the same cabling.
Dual Link DVI over CAT-6 Extender
This rack-mount sender/receiver solution extends the high resolutions of dual link DVI (up to 3840x2400) using two CAT-6 cables, effective at distances up to 200 feet (60m). A plug and play installation, delivery of additional features such as RS-232 control and built-in EDID management makes the Dual Link DVI over CAT-6 Extender a solid performer for demanding dual link DVI applications. Locking power supplies and RS-232 firmware upgrades enhance performance.
DVI RS-232 over Fiber Extender
This ultra long distance extender relies on a single strand of SC-terminated fiber optic cable to deliver both DVI and RS-232 up to 1640 feet (500m) in distance. The use of fiber optic cabling is ideal for applications where EMI (electromagnetic interference) is an important issue. RS-232 allows for automation and control of the display while locking connectors for the power supplies ensure a solid and robust installation.
"Professionals working with DVI now have greater options for extension than ever before," said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen. "The use of fiber optic single strand cabling offers a nice alternative to solutions that require many cables for the same application."
