Big news in the high-performance audio world: PML Sound International is adding GoldenEar, the well-regarded brand known for its high-quality loudspeakers, to its roster. This comes on the heels of Bose buying the McIntosh Group, which was announced in November this year. Starting January 1, 2025, GoldenEar will officially join PML's lineup alongside Paradigm, MartinLogan, and Anthem.
GoldenEar, under its new identity as GoldenEar Studio Inc., will temporarily pause operations from January 1 to January 31, 2025, to ensure a smooth transition into PML’s operations. While GoldenEar’s business will take a brief hiatus, PML has confirmed that customers with existing warranties and service agreements will continue to receive uninterrupted support when operations resume on February 3, 2025.
GoldenEar was founded by Sandy Gross, a key figure in the audio industry who also co-founded Polk Audio and Definitive Technology. Over the years, the brand has built a reputation for its high-performance products, including the celebrated T66, Triton Reference, and SuperSub speakers. GoldenEar was most recently owned by The Quest Group, known for its focus on audio cables and accessories, before this transition to PML.
This move brings GoldenEar into the fold with a company that lives and breathes speaker innovation. PML has built a solid reputation in the audio world, with brands like Paradigm and MartinLogan leading the way in advanced speaker technologies. By joining forces, GoldenEar gets a chance to tap into PML’s expertise in engineering and manufacturing, opening the door to new opportunities for growth and exciting new products.
“Acquiring GoldenEar Studio Inc. is an important step for PML as we continue to build our portfolio of premium audio brands,” said Badar Qureshi, President of PML Sound International. “This acquisition helps us strengthen our commitment to quality audio experiences and offers an opportunity to expand our global reach. We’re looking forward to welcoming GoldenEar’s talented team and loyal customers, and we remain dedicated to maintaining the high standards and innovative spirit that define the GoldenEar brand.”
To ensure a seamless integration, GoldenEar operations will temporarily pause in January 2025. During this period, no orders will be processed, but PML has assured customers and dealers that existing warranties and service support will remain in place. Business is set to resume on February 3, 2025, with PML promising the same level of product quality and customer service.
PML has also confirmed that everything will keep running smoothly with their existing brands like Paradigm, MartinLogan, and Anthem. For GoldenEar customers and dealers, that means no need to worry—support, warranties, and the quality you’ve come to expect are staying firmly in place as the brand makes this transition.
It will be interesting to see how GoldenEar’s integration into PML’s portfolio will shape its future. With PML’s deep expertise in speaker design and GoldenEar’s track record of delivering high-performance audio at accessible prices, there’s plenty of room for exciting collaboration and fresh ideas.
Under The Quest Group, GoldenEar focused on creating accessible, high-quality audio, with highlights like the critically acclaimed T66 floorstanding speakers. Now, with PML at the helm, there’s potential for GoldenEar to explore new technologies inspired by Paradigm’s innovative designs or MartinLogan’s electrostatic expertise.
While details on future product directions are scarce, PML’s leadership is expected to provide the resources and expertise needed to build upon GoldenEar’s legacy. As GoldenEar moves forward, questions linger about whether it will adopt new design philosophies or maintain its distinct approach to speaker development.
Whatever the outcome, the combination of GoldenEar’s existing reputation and PML’s capabilities positions the brand for a promising future in the high-performance audio market.
