Following the release of the Victrola Sapphire just two weeks ago, Victrola has now introduced a new turntable that seeks to simplify the vinyl experience while retaining quality and modern functionality. The Victrola Automatic, priced at $199, aims to bridge the gap between traditional vinyl lovers and those who appreciate the convenience of modern technology.
The most notable feature of the Victrola Automatic is its fully automatic operation. Unlike manual turntables that require users to place and lift the tonearm manually, the Victrola Automatic handles this process for you.
This means that once you place a record on the platter and press play, the tonearm will automatically cue to the start of the record and return to its resting position at the end of the side. This functionality not only adds a layer of convenience but also helps prevent wear and tear on the stylus, a common issue with manual turntables when the tonearm is accidentally left on the record.
One of the more unique features of the Victrola Automatic is its repeat function, which allows the turntable to continuously replay the same side of a record without needing any intervention from the user. This feature is particularly useful for those who enjoy having background music without the need to frequently interact with the turntable.
In addition to its automatic features, the new Victrola turntable offers a range of connectivity options that cater to both traditional and modern listeners. The turntable comes equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, enabling users to stream their vinyl records wirelessly to compatible Bluetooth speakers or headphones. This feature, known as VINYLSTREAM, offers flexibility for those who prefer a wireless setup or wish to enjoy their records in a more private setting.
For those who prefer a more traditional setup, the Victrola Automatic includes a switchable phono preamp and RCA line-level outputs. This allows users to connect the turntable directly to powered speakers or an amplifier, depending on their preferences. The inclusion of a built-in phono preamp means that even users without specialized equipment can enjoy their vinyl records without needing additional components.
The Victrola Automatic sports a minimalist design, with an all-black finish that is both sleek and unobtrusive. The deck is belt-driven and features an Audio Technica AT-3600L moving magnet cartridge, a reliable choice known for its solid performance in entry-level turntables. The cartridge is mounted on a fixed headshell, and the turntable also includes electronic speed control, allowing users to switch between 33 1/3 and 45 RPM records effortlessly.
The design of the turntable is user-friendly, with all the controls flush to the plinth, contributing to its clean and modern aesthetic. The illuminated power indicator at the front of the plinth adds a subtle touch, making it easy to see when the turntable is in operation.
“Our team has been working on a fully automatic turntable design for over three years, but we weren’t going to release it to the market until we had something that looks better, performs better, and is easier to use than any other turntable on the market in its class,” said Victrola CEO Scott Hagen.
“I’m more than confident to say Victrola has delivered. We again have a product that challenges the conventional approach on behalf of new customers’ needs, and it’s resulted in a beautiful, easy-to-use, quality-centric, and affordable turntable.”
Initially showcased at CES 2024, the Victrola Automatic has now made its way to retail stores in both the US and the UK. Priced at $199 in the US and £219 in the UK, it is available through major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and Target. The UK release is scheduled for October 1st, giving vinyl enthusiasts plenty of time to consider adding this turntable to their setup.
