The Samsung S95D QD-OLED stands as a defining moment in display technology. Breaking records with 1,700 nits peak brightness, this panel finally shatters OLED's historical brightness limitations. What's genuinely innovative here is Samsung's matte coating - a deceptively simple solution that transforms the viewing experience by virtually eliminating reflections. While purists might note a slight hit to contrast in bright environments, the trade-off delivers unprecedented versatility that makes this TV equally impressive in any lighting condition. Simply put, the S95D represents the most significant advancement in OLED technology this year. - See Eric's Review
The TCL QM7 isn’t the best TV of the year or even the best Mini LED, but it’s easily the best value. Not only does it bring respectable HDR imagery that would be a huge improvement over an older non Mini LED LCD display, but with prices at less than $1,000 for some models it's unbelievably good in terms of its price to performance. This is a TV that punches way above its weight and surprisingly even has good accuracy out of the box. If you’re looking for the best value HDR TV the TCL QM7 is hands down it. - See Connor's Review
I got a chance to check out the updated 2024 Samsung The Terrace outdoor TV at CEDIA, and it’s a serious upgrade. The improved weather resistance (now IP56) and higher brightness make it even better suited for outdoor use, whether in full sun or partial shade. The Neo QLED with Mini-LED tech delivers stunning visuals, and the upgraded NQ4 AI Gen2 processor ensures everything looks sharp and vibrant. It’s clear Samsung has focused on creating a superior outdoor viewing experience, and they nailed it. Perfect for anyone looking to elevate their outdoor entertainment setup!

Jon's demo of the JBL MA710 7.2-channel receiver represents a pivotal moment in home theater design. After seeing his setup, we're excited about what this sleek AVR enables - Dolby Atmos installations that enhance rather than hide from view. The MA710's compact yet powerful design proves high-performance audio doesn't require compromising aesthetics. Despite its modest footprint, this little powerhouse packs enough punch to drive a compelling 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos setup. This breakthrough earns it a Product of the Year Award for transforming how Atmos-capable receivers can integrate into modern living spaces. - Jon's Article
Sony's return to high-end home theater makes a bold statement with the STR-AZ5000ES. This powerhouse delivers 11 channels of built-in amplification at a compelling price point. Its innovative center channel features – including Center Speaker Lift Up and dual center speaker support – ensure dialogue clarity remains pristine even in complex sound mixes. Add in full HDMI 2.1 gaming features and Sony's renowned ES build quality, and you have a standout value for both home theater enthusiasts and serious gamers looking to future-proof their systems.

Marantz's Model 60n represents the perfect marriage of audiophile tradition and modern convenience. Its Class AB amplification and proprietary HDAM circuitry deliver the warm, detailed signature sound Marantz is famous for, while comprehensive streaming features including HEOS, AirPlay 2, and Bluetooth eliminate the compromises typically associated with network integration. The inclusion of thoughtful touches like a dedicated phono stage, HDMI ARC, and subwoofer output make this integrated amplifier a masterclass in versatility without sacrificing sound quality.
I was blown away by Fasetto's AUDIO Cu system at CEDIA. This innovative powerline-based audio solution is a game-changer for those of us who've struggled with the nightmare of running speaker wires through walls and under carpets. The ability to transmit Dolby Atmos and high-res audio over existing power lines is nothing short of revolutionary. No more drilling holes, no more unsightly cables snaking across the room – just plug your speakers into any outlet, and you're good to go. What really impressed me was the system's versatility, handling configurations from basic stereo up to a full-blown 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos setup, all without a single dedicated audio cable.
This soundbar is a powerhouse of audio excellence, delivering an immersive 11.1.4-channel experience that transforms your living room into a home theater. With its impressive 656W output, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support, and 22 built-in speakers, this system creates a rich, three-dimensional soundscape that envelops you in high-quality audio. The Q990D's smart features, including room calibration and seamless integration with Samsung TVs, coupled with its easy setup process, make it a top choice for those seeking premium sound without the complexity of traditional surround systems. - See Nick's Review
Yamaha's True X Bar 50A soundbar system aims to redefine home theater audio with a sleek design, premium build quality, and standout versatility. Priced around $1,000, it competes with top-tier brands like Sonos, Bose, and Samsung, but differentiates itself through portable surround speakers that double as independent Bluetooth units. The system features Dolby Atmos technology, offering an immersive soundstage, while Yamaha’s Clear Voice ensures crisp dialogue. Its wireless subwoofer delivers powerful, controlled bass, enhancing both cinematic and musical experiences. Connectivity options are robust, with HDMI eARC, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and built-in streaming services, plus app-based controls for easy customization.
The portable speakers' flexibility is a game-changer, allowing for dynamic placement and use across different scenarios. Whether for movies or music, the True X Bar 50A excels in delivering clear, rich audio, making it a top contender in its category. While competing systems from Sonos or Bose may match sound quality, they lack Yamaha's unique versatility. For those seeking high-end performance with adaptable features, the True X Bar 50A stands out as a compelling choice, blending excellent audio quality with innovative design to enhance any home theater setup. - See Indiana's Review
This revolutionary 22-speaker soundbar stole the show at CEDIA 2024, delivering the most impressive spatial audio demo we've heard. Its immersive sound experience, created by up-firing and side-firing speakers, envelops listeners in a breathtaking audio, pinpointing sound in a nearly magical way. But it's not just about sound – the Symphony Opus One is a visual masterpiece too, featuring a gorgeous motorized wood grille that elegantly reveals the speakers beneath.
The Marantz Horizon redefines what's possible in a single-speaker system, delivering artistry in both form and function. Its striking circular design houses an innovative array of multi-angled drivers that create an expansive soundstage with Dolby Atmos elevation. The Grand Horizon's 860W of power and eight-driver array, anchored by Marantz's new "Gravity" bass driver, produces some of the most commanding and nuanced sound we've heard from a one-piece system. With its marble plinth and premium finishes, it's as much a sculptural statement as it is an audio powerhouse.
Focal Aria Evo X No.2 is a Masterclass in building an affordable speaker that gives you such precision and clarity, you could listen to a song such as Billy Joel’s Famous Piano Man, and point to exactly what key was being played at each instance of the song. The level of transparency and precision is simply unheard of under 10k a pair and even against speakers much higher end, none best the Focal in it’s ability to give you the clearest and deepest soundstage of almost any speaker you will hear large or small. - See Daniel's Review
Intrigued by The Monitor Audio Studio 89 speakers, due to their design, I had to check them out, and I was truly impressed with their robust low-end response and clear articulation in the bass and mids, enabling loud playback that could easily draw attention from neighbors. They also excelled at lower volumes, maintaining detail without needing to be cranked up, which is rare for many speakers.
Whether I was enjoying music or watching a movie, they provided an immersive experience that felt almost surround-like, making my time with them thoroughly enjoyable. Overall, I would definitely welcome a pair into my own setup. - See Andrew's Review
The SVS Ultra Evolution Towers were far and away the best speakers for the money I have ever personally heard this year. The Dynamics, Soundstage, bass extension, and macro dynamics all were reminiscent of speakers costing up to 5x their price point. They delivered phenomenal tonality, a very unique high-end look, and had almost no major weaknesses overall which for the $3k a pair price point is extraordinary to say the least.
The Towers gave the widest soundstage of any speaker I have reviewed this year, with a level of precision few other speakers could match. The Towers as well as their larger brothers, the Titan and Pinnacle, are the perfect speaker for those who want to feel like their front row at a concert and creates the same emotional experience. The Ultra Evolution towers are proof that True High-end Performance does not need to come at high end pricing. - See Daniel's Review
The Sonus faber Sonetto V G2 floorstanding speakers offer a refined blend of Italian craftsmanship and acoustic excellence. Priced at $6,500, these 3-way speakers feature premium materials like leather accents and a cork-enclosed midrange chamber, inspired by Sonus faber’s flagship lines. Their sound signature excels in midrange clarity, delivering realistic vocals and precise instrumental separation, while the highs remain smooth and fatigue-free. The bass is controlled and articulate, though it may lack impact for some. These speakers provide expansive soundstaging and accurate imaging, making them ideal for audiophiles who prioritize long-term listening comfort and balanced sound.
Visually, the Sonetto V G2 is a work of art, with luxurious finishes in walnut, wenge, or black. Sonically, they shine across genres but require careful room placement for optimal performance. Though the treble and bass may feel restrained for those seeking a more dynamic sound, their overall cohesion and neutrality make them a top-tier choice. Balancing design, technology, and performance, the Sonetto V G2 offers exceptional value for those seeking high-end audio without the cost of flagship models. - See Indiana's Review
Monitor Audio has brilliantly reimagined the custom installation speaker category with their Creator Series. Instead of overwhelming installers and customers with countless options, they've crafted an elegant three-tier solution that scales from excellent to extraordinary. The series brings Monitor Audio's acclaimed driver technologies – including RDT III and IDC II from their premium loudspeakers – to architectural speakers, while clever innovations like the magnetic Quik-Link terminals transform the installation experience.
Despite fierce competition in premium wireless headphones, Focal's Bathys remain the benchmark for audiophile-grade portable listening. The M-shaped aluminum-magnesium drivers – derived from Focal's legendary wired headphones – create a soundstage that rivals open-back designs, with pristine imaging and controlled bass that's rare in noise-canceling headphones. The excellent Bluetooth implementation with aptX Adaptive, combined with the built-in DAC for USB listening, ensures pristine audio quality whether wireless or wired. While the active noise cancellation may not lead the category, it's thoughtfully implemented to preserve the headphones' exceptional sound signature rather than compromise it. From the premium materials and striking illuminated logo to the intuitive app control and 30-hour battery life, the Bathys continue to represent the perfect fusion of high-end audio heritage with modern wireless convenience.
When SVS revealed their new flagship at CEDIA 2023, it was clear they weren't just iterating – they were redefining what's possible in home subwoofer design. The SB17-Ultra R|Evolution introduces several industry firsts: a massive 17-inch driver with dual 8-inch voice coils, paired with the most powerful amplifier yet seen in a consumer subwoofer. Add in the sophisticated 295MHz DSP and upcoming auto-EQ capabilities, and SVS has created what appears to be the most technically advanced sealed subwoofer ever offered to the home market.
During my visit to MWAVE, I heard/felt something extraordinary: a single RBH Sound 21-SF/R subwoofer that not only matched but surpassed the impact of an entire wall of sixteen 16" competitors' subwoofers. This wasn't just about raw output – though with 4,000 watts driving a massive 21" carbon fiber driver capable of 38mm of linear excursion, there's plenty of that to go around.
What truly sets the 21-SF/R apart is its ability to deliver infrasonic bass with unprecedented clarity and control. While other subwoofers might give you quantity, this sealed behemoth delivers a quality of bass that must be experienced to be believed. The precision and articulation in frequencies below 20Hz created visceral sensations I'd never experienced before, transforming both music and movies into physical experiences that redefined my expectations for home theater performance.
At 373 pounds and featuring RBH's innovative G.A.D.S. (Granular Acoustic Damping System), this American-made masterpiece represents the pinnacle of subwoofer engineering. Yes, its $11,900 price tag puts it in an exclusive category, but for those seeking the absolute ultimate in bass reproduction, the 21-SF/R delivers performance that justifies every penny.
The Starke SW15 subwoofer delivers a powerful, no-frills bass experience, striking an impressive balance between performance and affordability. Priced at $899 but often available for $549, it offers a 15-inch driver powered by a 475W RMS (950W peak) amplifier, producing a deep frequency response from 14Hz to 240Hz. Its robust output of 116dB makes it ideal for home theaters seeking chest-thumping bass without the high cost or bulk of premium models. Setup is straightforward with RCA and XLR inputs, and no complex calibration is needed—just plug, play, and adjust. While the SW15 excels at delivering thunderous, room-shaking bass for movies, it sacrifices some musical precision, making it less suited for audiophiles focused on music playback.
Despite its modest design and lack of premium finishes, the SW15 stands out as an exceptional value. Its ability to rival higher-end subwoofers from brands like JL Audio at a fraction of the cost makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious home theater enthusiasts. The subwoofer’s ease of use, compact weight for its size, and raw power make it a practical choice for those seeking impactful cinematic bass. While it may lack the finesse and dual-purpose capability of more expensive competitors, the SW15's focus on powerful, immersive bass makes it a standout in its price range, delivering more than enough low-end punch to satisfy most movie lovers. - See Indiana's Review
Kaleidescape has long been the gold standard for high-end home theater, but their new Strato V player marks a watershed moment for the brand. At $3,995, it brings the company's renowned uncompressed 4K HDR playback and lossless audio to a price point previously occupied by premium disc players. Most impressive is how this compact unit works brilliantly as a standalone system – no additional server required – while delivering the same pristine picture quality and immersive audio that made Kaleidescape famous.
The Trinnov Altitude 16 steals the spotlight with its groundbreaking WaveForming technology. This innovative feature, the result of seven years of development, revolutionizes low-frequency reproduction in home theaters. By employing active acoustics, WaveForming eliminates problematic room modes, delivering unprecedented bass uniformity and clarity across the entire listening area. Compatible with various subwoofer setups, this technology adapts seamlessly to create an immersive soundscape that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in home audio. The Altitude 16 with WaveForming doesn't just raise the bar; it redefines the entire playing field for high-end audio processors.
