If Darth Vader Designed a Loudspeaker, It Might Look Like This

It looks like a sci-fi sculpture, but the ELAC Concentro M 807 is actually a $45,000 loudspeaker built for serious listening.

If you walked past the ELAC Concentro M 807 without knowing what it was, you might mistake it for a futuristic air purifier or a set piece from a space opera. But don’t be fooled. These are floorstanding speakers—very high-end ones, in fact. And they just made their debut at High End Munich 2025.

Priced at $45,000 a pair, the M 807 isn’t meant to blend into the background. It's a serious piece of audio gear designed for listeners who care just as much about performance as they do about design. And if you're familiar with ELAC's more accessible gear, like the Debut series, this comes from the other side of the company—the one that’s been engineering speakers in Germany for nearly a century.

One glance at the M 807 tells you it’s not trying to look like a traditional speaker. It’s all smooth curves and sharp angles, finished in glossy black or white with brushed aluminum accents. But this shape isn’t just about standing out in your living room. Those aerodynamic lines are actually there to help improve how sound moves around the speaker, specifically, by reducing diffraction and spreading sound more evenly.

The cabinet is reinforced internally and avoids flat, parallel walls. That’s a deliberate move to cut down on unwanted vibrations and echoing inside the box, common problems that can make a speaker sound muddy. This helps keep things cleaner and more balanced, no matter what you’re playing.

Another smart touch: the bass reflex port is built into the bottom of the speaker. That means it fires low frequencies downward, which can help the bass sound more consistent in different rooms or when you move around the space.

At the heart of the Concentro M 807 is something ELAC calls the VXe 6 array. Basically, it’s a cluster of six midrange drivers arranged in a circle around a special tweeter. That tweeter—the JET 6—isn’t your typical dome type. It’s a folded ribbon design that moves air very quickly and very efficiently. The goal? Smooth, detailed highs without harshness or distortion.

One of the neat things about this setup is that you can actually change how the sound spreads out into the room. There are five different radiation modes to choose from, letting you fine-tune how focused or wide you want the soundstage to be. That kind of flexibility is rare, even at this price.

And if you're wondering about low-end performance: each speaker packs two 10-inch aluminum sandwich woofers. These aren’t just large—they’re engineered to keep distortion to a minimum by balancing out internal forces. The result? Deep, powerful bass that doesn’t overwhelm the rest of the sound.

Inside each speaker is a custom-built crossover network—essentially the traffic director for all the sound. It makes sure that high frequencies go to the tweeter, mids to the midrange drivers, and lows to the woofers. This isn’t something most people think about, but it’s a big part of what makes a speaker sound smooth and cohesive instead of disjointed or uneven.

ELAC uses high-end components here—things like film capacitors and air-core inductors—that are chosen for reliability and signal purity. That means less chance of distortion or weird timing issues between different drivers.

With a price tag north of $40K, the Concentro M 807 clearly isn’t meant for everyone. But for folks who are serious about two-channel audio and want their speakers to pull double duty as conversation-starting art pieces, this one fits the bill.

The ELAC Concentro M 807 isn’t shy. It takes up space, demands attention, and brings along some pretty serious engineering under its sculptural exterior. From its configurable sound dispersion system to the down-firing bass design and premium crossover components, it’s clear this speaker was built with a lot of thought about how people actually listen to music, and where.

Is it practical? Not exactly. Is it interesting? Absolutely. Whether you’re looking for a new addition to your listening room or just curious about where high-end audio is headed, the M 807 makes a strong case that great sound doesn’t have to come in a wooden box.
