iTunes is a free media manager software from Apple. It comes with all iPod/iPhone/iPad products, and is the most common media manager.
The graphical user interface is easy to use, which is its biggest claim to fame. Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of computers can navigate the software.
First released in January, 2001, iTunes has expanded to include an advanced shuffle feature (Genius) a music social networking feature (Ping) along with management of music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, Internet radio and Apps.
For ripping CDs, iTunes has a wide variety of options for the more advanced user. Multiple bit-rate options exist for MP3, AAC formats, as well as WAV, AIFF, and Apple Lossless formats. For more variety or more advanced options, a different media manager will be need. For most users, though, iTunes offers a simple, easy to use interface that has very few negatives.
