British audio specialist KEF has introduced the KEF LSX II LT, the latest addition to its LS Wireless Collection, offering a streamlined and budget-friendly option for audio enthusiasts. Building on the success of the LSX and LSX II models, the LSX II LT aims to provide high-quality sound and extensive connectivity options at a more accessible price point.
At first glance, it's hard to distinguish the LSX II LT from its predecessors, particularly the LSX II. They share a similar design, and dimensions, and even utilize the same Uni-Q driver, amplification, and streaming technology. According to KEF, the sound performance of the LSX II LT should be on par with the LSX II, but independent testing is required to confirm this claim.
The LSX II LT features KEF's 11th generation Uni-Q driver with the signature tangerine waveguide. These are active speakers, each equipped with its own amplifier, providing a total power output of 200 watts for this compact speaker system.
Connectivity options are quite comprehensive, including UPnP support for network-stored music, AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, and Bluetooth 5.0, an improvement over the LSX II's Bluetooth 4.2. It also supports popular streaming services like Tidal, Spotify, Amazon Music, Qobuz, and Deezer, along with internet radio. High-resolution audio files up to 24-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD are also compatible.
Control over playback, volume, and room EQ DSP features can be achieved through the KEF Connect app, available for both Android and iOS devices. The speakers can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet for stable performance.
In terms of physical inputs, the LSX II LT retains several options, including an HDMI ARC input, an optical input, and a USB-C input for connecting various sources such as TVs, computers, CD players, or game consoles. Additionally, there is a dedicated subwoofer output for those seeking more bass in their audio setup.
KEF has managed to lower the price of the LSX II LT compared to the LSX II by making a few omissions. The LSX II LT sacrifices the wireless link between the two speaker units in favor of a wired connection. It also removes the analog aux input and Roon Ready certification.
With the KEF LSX II LT, only one speaker unit needs to be connected to the power source, while the primary unit powers the secondary speaker using a three-meter interspeaker cable. An eight-meter interspeaker cable is also available for purchase separately to offer more flexible positioning of the speakers.
Visually, the LSX II LT departs from the luxury cloth covering found on the LSX II, opting for a smooth finish. It is available in three new color options: Graphite Grey, Stone White, and Sage Green.
