Latest PS5 Beta Update Enhances DualSense Controller Audio and Share Screen Features

PlayStation 5 owners can look forward to an array of improvements as Sony releases its latest PS5 beta update, focusing on the DualSense controller's audio quality and customization options.

In a bid to improve the user experience of PlayStation 5 (PS5) owners, Sony has rolled out the latest PS5 beta update, introducing several notable enhancements to the DualSense controller and other features. This update, currently in beta testing, focuses on improving audio quality, screen sharing, and customization options for PS5 users.

The main improvement in this PS5 beta update is undoubtedly the enhancement of the DualSense controller's audio capabilities. The update includes improvements to the controller's speakers and microphones, aiming to provide a better overall experience for gamers.

The speakers have been tweaked to offer higher volume output for in-game sounds and voice chat. This could be a significant improvement for gamers who rely on the controller's speaker for audio feedback during gameplay.

The most substantial upgrade to the DualSense controller, however, is the improved noise cancellation for the built-in microphone. Sony has employed a new AI machine learning model to reduce background noise, resulting in clearer and more precise voice chat.

This development is particularly welcome for users who have found the microphone's performance lacking in previous iterations, as it addresses one of the controller's primary shortcomings.

The improved noise isolation extends to mitigating the interference caused by button presses and game audio, ensuring a better voice chat experience. Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment, highlighted the advancements in microphone quality, underlining the positive impact this will have on communication while gaming.

“The mic input quality on these controllers has been improved, courtesy of a new AI machine learning model,” says Hideaki Nishino in his post on PlayStation Blog, “Background noise from button presses and game audio are suppressed, resulting in a better voice chat experience.”

Another noteworthy addition to the PS5's feature set is the ability to control the brightness of the PS5's power indicator. Users now have the option to select from three presets: dim, medium, and bright (default). This customization feature allows players to tailor the visual appearance of their console to their preferences, making it a welcome addition for those who wish to maintain a less obtrusive setup.

Furthermore, the update introduces improvements to the Screen Share feature on the PS5. Viewers can now interact with the host's gameplay by using pointers and emoji reactions.

This feature enables viewers to highlight specific objects or areas within the shared screen, enhancing the overall viewing experience and fostering collaboration between players. While emoji reactions can add a layer of engagement, they can be disabled by the host for those who prefer a more focused gaming session.

Viewers can move a pointer around, send a ping, or draw a line on the shared screen, allowing them to highlight certain objects or areas to guide the host player more accurately,” explains Hideaki Nishino.

It's worth noting that this PS5 beta update is currently available to a select group of testers in various regions, including the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany, and France. Typically, beta updates undergo testing before being rolled out to all PS5 owners in the coming months, providing that these enhancements will eventually reach a wider audience.

Sony's latest PS5 beta update aims to enhance the gaming experience by addressing some of the DualSense controller's limitations. The improvements in microphone quality and speaker volume, coupled with the addition of customizable power indicator brightness and screen sharing enhancements, show Sony's dedication to continually improving and refining the PS5's features for its user base.

While these features are currently in beta testing, they are expected to benefit all PS5 users in the near future, offering a more enjoyable and customized gaming experience.
