LG Display’s 4th-Generation OLED Panel Is Brighter, Smarter, and Ready to Dominate 2025 TVs

With a groundbreaking 4,000-nit peak brightness, LG Display’s 4th-generation OLED panel promises to set a new standard for television performance.

LG Display has officially introduced its 4th-generation OLED panel, and it’s making waves with some impressive upgrades. Designed to meet the demands of AI-enhanced televisions and offering unprecedented brightness, this new panel is already set to feature in flagship 2025 TVs such as LG’s G5 and Panasonic’s Z95B models.

The headline feature? A peak brightness of 4,000 nits. That’s a 33% boost over the previous generation and a big deal for anyone who wants the sharpest, most vivid picture possible. LG Display achieved this with a new approach to how light is emitted inside the panel.

Instead of the three-layer setup used in older panels, this new one adds an extra blue light-emitting layer and separates the red and green layers into their own. This setup, called the Primary RGB Tandem structure, not only makes the screen brighter but also improves color brightness. The result? Colors pop like never before, with brightness levels reaching 2,100 nits—a 40% jump from before.

AI is changing how TVs work, with features like real-time upscaling and content optimization. But these features require displays that can keep up. That’s where this OLED panel shines (literally). It’s built to work seamlessly with the advanced processing power of AI TVs, delivering stunning visuals no matter what you’re watching.

Even better, this added performance doesn’t mean a huge spike in energy use. LG Display has made the new panel 20% more efficient than the previous version, so you get brighter images without worrying about sky-high power consumption.

If you’ve ever watched TV in a bright room and noticed reflections messing with the picture, this panel has you covered. LG Display added a special ultra-low reflection film that blocks 99% of reflections—both from outside light and from inside the panel itself. That means you’ll see deep, inky blacks and clear images even in a sunlit living room.

Another perk? This panel emits far less blue light than LCD screens—just 45% compared to the 70-80% typical of LCDs. That’s great news for late-night bingers worried about eye strain or disrupted sleep.

On top of that, LG Display has focused on making this panel eco-friendly. It uses 90% less plastic than similar LCD panels, and when the time comes to recycle, over 92% of the materials can be reused. It’s a small step toward greener tech, but it’s a meaningful one.

“The fourth-generation OLED panel is the essence of innovation that exceeds the limits of existing displays by applying LG Display’s unique technologies such as Primary RGB Tandem and ultra-low reflection technology,” said Hyeon-woo Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of the Large Display Business Unit at LG Display.

He added, “We will provide an unprecedented customer experience along with superior picture quality and user-friendly technology while strengthening our OLED technology leadership.”

The OLED market is heating up, with competitors like Samsung pushing their QD-OLED panels to impressive heights. Both LG Display’s 4th-gen OLED and Samsung’s latest offerings claim 4,000 nits of peak brightness, so it’ll be interesting to see how they compare when the TVs hit shelves. But LG’s OLED panels still hold some unique advantages, like better viewing angles, deeper blacks, and that handy anti-reflective tech.

You won’t have to wait long to see this new panel in action. It’s already set to appear in flagship TVs like LG’s G5 and Panasonic’s Z95B this year. Gamers should take note also as LG Display is planning to bring this tech to its gaming OLED lineup, including monitors with top-tier specs and even bendable screens.
