LG is shaking things up with its new UltraGear GX9 series, unveiled just ahead of CES 2025. This lineup introduces the world’s first 5K2K-resolution bendable OLED gaming monitor, along with other models designed to enhance gaming and productivity. With features like adjustable curvature, advanced display technology, and versatile connectivity, LG is aiming to appeal to gamers and professionals alike.

The star of the lineup, the UltraGear 45GX990A, has garnered attention as the first-ever 5K2K-resolution OLED gaming monitor that can bend to a 900R curvature. This 45-inch display smoothly shifts from flat to curved, giving you the freedom to tweak it to fit your gaming style or setup. Whether you’re into first-person shooters or racing games, this kind of flexibility lets you fully immerse yourself in the action.

The UltraGear 45GX990A’s 5120 x 2160 resolution gives you a much wider view than standard 16:9 screens, making it perfect for both gaming and work. Its 21:9 aspect ratio strikes a nice balance—it’s wide enough for immersive gaming but still practical for productivity tasks. With LG’s WOLED panel tech, you can expect vibrant colors, deep blacks, and sharp contrast for an all-around stunning experience.

The UltraGear GX9 series introduces an updated Dual-Mode feature, allowing you to customize your screen’s aspect ratio, resolution, and refresh rate. With eight preset configurations, you can optimize your setup for various tasks, from gaming to content creation. The feature supports aspect ratios of 21:9 and 16:9, with adjustable screen sizes ranging from 27 to 45 inches.

The 45GX990A boasts a 0.03ms (GtG) response time and certifications for NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. These specifications aim to reduce screen tearing and input lag, providing a smoother gaming experience. It also comes loaded with modern connectivity options like DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, and USB-C with 90W power delivery.

If the bendable screen isn’t your thing, the UltraGear 45GX950A might be a better fit. It’s a non-bendable model with a fixed 800R curve, offering the same 45-inch size, 21:9 aspect ratio, and 5K2K resolution as its bendable sibling. The monitor’s RGWB subpixel layout is designed to improve text readability, making it suitable for productivity tasks as well as gaming.

The UltraGear GX9 series also has something for the streaming crowd: the UltraGear 39GX90SA. This 39-inch monitor, powered by LG’s webOS platform, doubles as a home entertainment hub, letting you stream your favorite shows and movies without needing a PC or extra gadgets. With its 800R curve and 21:9 aspect ratio, it delivers the same stunning visuals as its larger siblings but in a size that’s perfect for tighter spaces.

The UltraGear 39GX90SA comes with an ergonomic L-shaped stand that keeps your desk neat and clutter-free. Plus, its USB-C connectivity makes it super easy to connect a variety of devices. LG clearly had multitaskers in mind, combining smart features for entertainment with practical touches for productivity.

“The UltraGear GX9 series sets a new standard for OLED gaming monitors, combining groundbreaking display technology with smart features that expand and enhance the user experience,” said YS Lee, vice president and head of the IT Business Unit, LG Media Entertainment Solution Company.

“From the world’s first 5K2K OLED gaming monitors with second-generation Dual-Mode to smart gaming monitors with built-in webOS, the GX9 lineup pushes the boundaries to deliver maximum value and enjoyment for our customers.”

The UltraGear GX9 series is already making waves, with the 45GX990A snagging three CES 2025 awards, including the prestigious ‘Best of Innovation.’ LG will be showing off these monitors next week at the CES, so we’ll get a closer look at their design and performance soon. As for release dates and pricing? That’s still under wraps, but you can expect them to hit the market later in 2025.
