Not every new laptop is newsworthy, but the first-ever UltraGear gaming laptop from LG electronics is most definitely worthy of note. The 17G90Q is an absolute powerhouse gaming PC in a portable format. Equipped with a 300 Hz refresh 17 inch IPS panel with 1 ms response, an NVIDIA RTX 3080 Max-Q graphics card, and dual SSD’s, with an 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake H processor running the show, it’s a laptop designed to get the most out of modern games.
Being a gaming laptop, priorities are different than laptops for entertainment or for creative’s or for business productivity. The most notable difference is the display, which is “only” full HD 1080p and covers the sRGB gamut. This is not a crazy HDR 4K etc. laptop. This screen is designed for speed. When you task an RTX 3080 with driving a 1080p display you know you're going to achieve some serious frame rates.
Dual DDR 4 memory slots accept up to 32 Gb of RAM and the dual SSD slots can hold up to 1TB of storage. Intel Killer Wireless tech ensures a fast and stable connection
“The LG UltraGear gaming laptop has everything needed to tackle the latest high-spec games, delivering the smooth, responsive gameplay that all gamers want. Our first-ever gaming laptop, the 17G90Q differentiates itself from competing products with its premium hardware, generous, high-quality screen, and a sleek, lightweight design that maximizes convenience and portability.”
Seo Young-jae, senior vice president and head of the IT business unit of LG Electronics Business Solutions Company
So here's the cool thing about this laptop, it's less than an inch thick (0.83") despite containing all that powerful hardware as well as a 93Wh battery to meet things going for an extended session when unplugged. It's not the lightest, weighing in at 5.82 pounds, but what's inside is equivalent to a fairly powerful desktop, so in that sense, it's amazingly portable.
Anyhow, LG is not new to making laptops, it's only new to releasing an UltraGear laptop that's solely focused on the competitive gamer who needs extreme speed above all, In a package that easily fits in the laptop slot of a backpack (something is not always the case of gaming laptops).
LG anticipates shipping the 17G90Q UltraGear gaming laptop in early 2022, both in South Korea and the United States.
