Magico has unveiled its latest addition to the S Series, the S2 floorstanding loudspeakers, which aim to deliver high performance in a compact footprint. Designed to blend seamlessly into various environments while maintaining sonic excellence, the Magico S2 will be available for shipping starting Q2 2025, with prices beginning at $34,000 per pair for the Softec finish and $39,100 for the High Gloss option.
The Magico S2 is a three-way loudspeaker with four drivers housed in a cabinet designed to minimize resonance and diffraction. Constructed from a single-piece extruded aluminum, the cabinet is Magico's largest extrusion to date. A full-length vertical brace inside the enclosure enhances rigidity and stiffness, enabling better damping and reducing unwanted colorations in audio playback.
Magico utilized advanced tools, including a Polytec Laser Vibrometer and 3D modeling, during the development process to fine-tune the cabinet's acoustic performance. These technologies allowed engineers to address potential issues with vibration and resonance early in the design phase.
The S2 employs Magico’s Gen 8 Nano-Tec driver cones, featuring an aluminum-honeycomb core sandwiched between graphene-reinforced carbon-fiber skins. This construction creates a lightweight yet sturdy cone, resulting in lower distortion and improved damping.
The speaker includes a 5-inch midrange driver with a 75mm voice coil, powered by a neodymium-based motor system. The motor system uses two oversized magnets to stabilize the magnetic field in a 16mm air gap, allowing for greater efficiency and clarity.
For low frequencies, the S2 features two 7-inch woofers, each with a 3-inch voice coil and Gen 8 Nano-Tec cone. The woofers are built into a third-generation chassis designed to improve mechanical and acoustical parameters. The design incorporates better force distribution and enhanced suspension, allowing the woofers to deliver powerful and undistorted bass.
The 28mm tweeter is inspired by Magico's flagship M9 model. It features a diamond-coated beryllium diaphragm and a neodymium-based motor system, providing a distortion-free treble response up to 50kHz.
The Magico S2 is equipped with Magico's three-way Elliptical Symmetry Crossover (ESXO). This crossover uses a Linkwitz-Riley filter with a 24dB slope to ensure precise frequency and phase linearity while keeping intermodulation distortion to a minimum. High-quality Mundorf components, including M-Resist Ultra foil resistors and copper foil paper coils, enhance power handling and transparency.
The S2 measures 43.48 inches in height, 15.56 inches in width, and 13.59 inches in depth (110.4 x 39.5 x 34.5 cm). It weighs 132 pounds (60 kg) per unit, making it a relatively compact yet substantial speaker. Despite its size, Magico claims the S2 offers a level of performance previously unattainable in this form factor.
Technical Specifications:
The S2 is available in two finish options: Softec and High Gloss. The Softec finish offers a durable texture with rich color depth, while the High Gloss option provides a polished, reflective surface. Each finish includes six curated color options, giving users a total of 12 aesthetic choices.
The Magico S2 loudspeakers will begin shipping in Q2 2025. Pricing is set at $34,000 per pair for the Softec finish and $39,100 for the High Gloss finish.
