Marantz has announced the release of its new 10 Series Collection, marking the brand's first launch of high-end stereo components since 2016. The 10 Series, which includes the Marantz Model 10 Reference Integrated Amplifier, the SACD 10 Reference SACD player, and the LINK 10n Reference Network Audio Player, represents a significant investment in the next generation of high-performance audio equipment.
Developed over five years at the Shirakawa Audio Works in Japan, the Marantz 10 Series Collection is a nod to the company’s storied history while embracing modern audio technology. The collection aims to appeal to long-time Marantz enthusiasts and new customers seeking high-quality audio components with contemporary design and advanced capabilities.
The Model 10 Reference Integrated Amplifier, the first product from the series to hit the market, is already garnering attention for its design and technical specifications. It is being touted as Marantz's most powerful integrated amplifier to date, boasting a dual-mono symmetrical amplifier layout housed within a copper-plated, triple-layered chassis. This compartmentalized design separates high and low-power circuits to minimize interference, a feature designed to improve the amplifier's performance.
One of the key features of the Model 10 is its dual-mono operation, which is fully balanced from input to output. Marantz collaborated with Purifi, a company known for its high-end amplifiers, to develop the dual-mono amplifiers used in the Model 10.
Each amplifier has its own dedicated power supply, and all line-level inputs are powered by a separate linear power supply. This architecture is intended to ensure low distortion levels, which Marantz reports as being 0.05% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) across the entire audio band at full power, and even lower at half-rated power.
The amplifier can output up to 250 watts into an 8-ohm load, and 500 watts into a 4-ohm load, making it capable of driving a wide range of speakers with ease. For those seeking even more power, the Model 10 can be configured in a bi-amplified setup by linking two amplifiers through Marantz’s Floating Control Bus System, with the possibility of connecting up to four Model 10 units in total.
The preamplifier section of the Model 10 utilizes Marantz’s latest generation of HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) analog circuitry, a proprietary technology that dates back to the PM-99SE amplifier of 1992. The HDAM circuitry is designed to enhance signal transparency and speed, contributing to the overall sound quality that Marantz is known for.
The Model 10 includes a variety of input options, making it versatile for different audio setups. It features two balanced XLR inputs, three RCA analog inputs, and a high-quality phono stage that supports both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges with three impedance options for broader compatibility. Output options include XLR and RCA preamplifier outputs, and the amplifier can be used purely as a power amplifier when paired with the LINK 10n Reference Network Audio Player.
The front panel of the Model 10 is adorned with a porthole-style OLED display, a design element reminiscent of classic Marantz products. This display can show the volume level, selected input, or function as a VU meter, with adjustable brightness and display timeout settings.
The control knobs for volume and input selection are crafted from CNC-machined spun-finished aluminum, designed to provide a tactile and premium user experience. Even the remote control handset is uniquely designed for the Model 10, featuring a teal-colored aluminum top surface.
Following the launch of the Model 10, Marantz plans to release the SACD 10 and LINK 10n Reference Network Audio Player. The LINK 10n is powered by Marantz's HEOS system, enabling high-resolution music streaming and integration with other HEOS-compatible devices for a multi-room audio experience.
The LINK 10n supports a wide range of streaming services, including AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Bluetooth, and more. It can handle audio files up to 384kHz/32-bit and DSD 4X, ensuring bit-perfect playback without downsampling or conversion.
The SACD 10 is expected to complement the amplifier by offering a high-quality disc playback experience that meets the standards set by the other components in the 10 Series.
The Marantz Model 10 Reference Integrated Amplifier is available now at select retailers, priced at $15,000 / €14,500 / £12,000. The SACD 10 and LINK 10n are slated for release in the coming months, with pricing and availability details yet to be announced.
