In an exciting development for both audio and automotive enthusiasts, McIntosh has announced the debut of its new MX1200 entertainment system in the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition. This integration marks a significant milestone as the first fully electric Jeep brand vehicle to feature McIntosh's luxury audio technology. The collaboration between these two iconic American brands aims to provide a premium auditory experience in an electric vehicle (EV) for the first time.
The collaboration between McIntosh and Jeep began in 2021 with the launch of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, a partnership that has since extended to various other Jeep models, including the Wagoneer, Wagoneer L, Grand Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer L, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee 4xe.
The integration of McIntosh’s high-fidelity audio systems in these vehicles has been well-received, setting the stage for the introduction of the MX1200 in Jeep's first global battery-electric vehicle (BEV).
“Our partnership with the Jeep brand continues to be a great success,” said Charlie Randall, President of McIntosh Laboratory, Inc. “It’s exciting to see McIntosh audio systems on the road again and to share our brand and listening experience with a whole new group of customers.”
The McIntosh MX1200 is a 24-channel premium amplifier system capable of delivering up to 1,200 watts to 19 strategically placed speakers within the vehicle. This setup includes four powerful 6” x 9” door speakers, active coaxial speakers, a 12” dual voice coil subwoofer, and rear speakers mounted in the liftgate.
Each speaker is designed to minimize Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), enhancing performance and creating a more responsive sound stage. The coaxial speakers, featuring a 3.5” midrange and a 1” tweeter with dedicated amplifier channels, utilize lighter and stronger materials to ensure superior audio clarity and fidelity.
Key to the MX1200’s performance are McIntosh’s patented technologies, including Power Guard and LD/HP (Low Distortion/High Performance). Power Guard® helps eliminate unpleasant and potentially harmful “clipping” in the audio signal, while LD/HP ensures pristine sound quality at any volume level. These technologies collectively contribute to a luxury listening experience that mirrors the quality of McIntosh’s renowned home audio systems.
The McIntosh MX1200 is not only about performance but also about aesthetic integration. The system features illuminated McIntosh logos on the speaker grilles, aluminum framing, industrial ridged control knobs, and the signature “McIntosh Blue” decibel meters displayed on the Uconnect 5 screen. These design elements are intended to evoke the look and feel of McIntosh’s classic home audio equipment, providing a visually cohesive and luxurious experience.
“This groundbreaking, fully electric Jeep Wagoneer S will offer the amazing and unparalleled McIntosh listening experience that Wagoneer customers have now come to expect. We have incorporated high-performance McIntosh grade hardware and very dedicated tuning, which encompasses the sound characteristics of our brand,” said Fiore Cappelletto Vice President and General Manager – McIntosh Group Automotive.
“McIntosh and the Jeep brand have been a perfect match and, in fact, has helped elevating both brands in a joyful and successful journey as we delve deeper into the luxury SUV segment.”
