Netflix Just Gave Its TV and Mobile App a Makeover — Here’s What’s Changing

Netflix is rolling out a major update to its TV and mobile apps, bringing a fresh look, smarter recommendations, and new ways to find something to watch.

If you’ve just opened Netflix and thought something looked different, you’re not imagining things. The streaming giant is rolling out its biggest app update in over a decade, and it’s more than just a fresh coat of paint. The redesign aims to make it easier to find what you want to watch — whether that’s a TV series, live sports event, or even a video game — and introduces a few new tools to help get you there faster.

The update is starting to roll out now and will continue to reach users around the world over the next few months. Whether you're watching on your TV or scrolling on your phone, expect to see a cleaner layout, smarter recommendations, and some new features inspired by the way people actually use the service today.

Netflix says the main goal of the redesign is to make the experience feel more intuitive and less cluttered. One of the biggest changes is how the homepage looks on your TV. Instead of digging through a bunch of menus or sidebars, the new layout places everything right in front of you.

Netflix TV generative search.

There’s a large banner at the top of the screen that highlights a recommended show or movie. Scroll down and you’ll see rows like “Your Next Watch,” “Only on Netflix,” or “Top Picks For You.” These rows now include little labels that tell you things like whether something is trending, new, or an award-winner — the kind of quick context that can help you decide what to watch without having to dig too deep.

And instead of hiding useful buttons like “Search” or “My List” off to the side, Netflix has moved them to the top of the screen where they’re easier to spot and reach.

The updated interface isn’t just about how things look — it’s also changing how Netflix figures out what to show you. According to Netflix’s tech team, the new recommendation engine now takes more of your actions into account. That means it’s not just what you’ve watched in the past, but also what trailers you check out, who you search for, or even the genres you hover over.

Let’s say you’re in the mood for rom-coms and search for Glenn Powell. Netflix might start showing you more romantic comedies or similar movies right away, adapting to what you're into at that moment.

It’s all part of a shift toward more responsive and in-the-moment suggestions, instead of the usual “you liked this, so try that” approach.

Netflix TV Vertical Video Feed.

Netflix is also starting to roll out a new search tool powered by generative AI, and it's designed to understand you even when you’re not sure what you're looking for.

This feature, currently in beta for iOS users, lets you type in a casual phrase like “I want something scary with clowns” or “Show me something light and funny” and get a list of suggestions that match that vibe. It’s a way to search more naturally, without needing to know the exact title or navigate through filters.

Netflix says the feature is opt-in for now and only available on mobile, but it’s a peek at how search might work across the service in the near future.

If you spend more time on your phone than your TV, you’ll notice some changes there too. Netflix is introducing a vertical feed for mobile users — something that looks a lot like TikTok. You can swipe through short clips and trailers, tap to watch the full thing, save it to your list, or send it to a friend.

There’s also a new feature called “Moments” that lets you bookmark and rewatch your favorite scenes. It’s clearly aimed at making browsing more interactive and social, especially for users who like to explore visually rather than search for specific titles.

How To Use The New Netflix Experience

The redesign also reflects how much Netflix has changed over the years. It’s no longer just a platform for binge-watching shows — it’s now home to live sports, comedy specials, reality events, and even video games.

To keep up with all that, the new interface is built to better support real-time content. For example, it can now notify you when a live game is starting or when a moment in a show is trending. That could be especially useful as Netflix continues its push into live events like NFL games or weekly WWE broadcasts.

And with its growing library of games, Netflix wants to make sure those titles feel like a natural part of the app, not something tacked on.

The new Netflix look is already starting to appear for some users, with a full rollout expected over the next several weeks. If you’re not seeing it yet, make sure your app is updated.

For now, all users — whether you’re on the ad-supported plan or the premium tier — will see the same design. But as Netflix gathers more feedback, don’t be surprised if the interface continues to evolve.
