Formovie has announced the launch of its latest flagship, the Formovie Theater Premium, a 4K ultra-short-throw (UST) projector designed to offer high-quality visuals and immersive audio for home theaters. This release builds on the company's original Theater model, incorporating advanced features in display technology, sound engineering, and gaming performance, all intended to deliver an upgraded user experience.
At the heart of the Theater Premium is Formovie’s ALPD (Advanced Laser Phosphor Display) 4.0 RGB+ triple-laser technology, developed by Appotronics, the parent company of Formovie. The ALPD technology combines mixed multi-color laser lines and laser-excited fluorescent materials, aiming to replicate cinema-quality imagery in a home setting.
This upgraded laser system not only enhances brightness to a notable 2,200 ISO lumens but also delivers a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, which supports sharper details even in well-lit rooms. The color performance is another highlight, as the projector achieves 107% coverage of the BT.2020 color gamut, enhancing color precision and rendering that surpasses the previous Theater model by approximately 25% in clarity.
The projector supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, enabling compatibility with a range of high-definition media, from Blu-ray to NAS-stored movies. With these enhancements, Formovie seeks to bring sharper color accuracy and vibrant brightness that maintain consistency over an extended lifespan, estimated at up to 30,000 hours.
The Formovie Theater Premium stands out for its ultra-short throw ratio of 0.21:1, which allows for flexible placement in various room sizes. With this ratio, users can achieve a 100-inch image from a significantly closer distance, making the projector adaptable for smaller spaces.
Additionally, the projector can display a 150-inch image from just 42 cm away, meeting the demands of larger home theater setups without sacrificing quality. This ultra-short throw capability also reduces the projection height for an extra-large display, enabling users to transform smaller rooms into immersive viewing areas efficiently.
In terms of audio, Formovie has partnered with Bowers & Wilkins to enhance the sound system of the Theater Premium, making it a well-rounded home entertainment solution. This second-generation audio setup features dual 15W speakers housed in a 990cc sound chamber, providing deeper bass resonance and more stable sound output. The high-frequency range benefits from a new treble unit equipped with a titanium diaphragm and filtering capacitors, designed to create clearer and more balanced audio.
Also, the projector supports Dolby Atmos and DTS-X audio formats, delivering a multi-dimensional sound experience intended to complement its high-definition visuals. These features aim to immerse users in a cinematic audio experience, whether watching movies or playing games.
A notable change in the Theater Premium is the shift from Android TV to Google TV as its primary interface, allowing users seamless access to a wide array of streaming applications. The Google TV platform includes direct access to services like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Disney+, enabling a smoother user experience than previous models.
This integration addresses a common drawback in many projectors, which often lack direct support for popular streaming platforms. Additionally, the projector includes Chromecast functionality, allowing users to share content from their smartphones or tablets directly to the screen.
Formovie has incorporated MEMC (Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation) technology into the Theater Premium to improve the clarity of fast-moving scenes, which is especially beneficial for action movies and live sports. By inserting additional frames, MEMC reduces motion blur, creating smoother playback and enhancing overall visual continuity for high-speed scenes.
For gaming fans, the Theater Premium includes a low-latency Game Mode with an 18ms response time. This feature, which outperforms the original Theater model’s 40ms latency, is designed to offer a responsive gaming experience suitable for various genres, from high-speed racing games to open-world adventures. Connectivity options are ample, with three HDMI 2.1 ports (one with eARC support), providing flexible compatibility with gaming consoles and other multimedia devices.
The Formovie Theater Premium is available for pre-order at ProjectorScreen, starting October 28, 2024, with an introductory price of $2,999. This offer will be available until November 5, 2024, after which the projector will be priced at its regular retail price of $3,499.
