No More Sonos Lock-In – Victrola Stream Turntables Can Now Connect to Almost Anything

If you own a Victrola Stream turntable, you’re getting a free upgrade that adds Bluetooth streaming, Wi-Fi compatibility beyond Sonos, and Roon support.

No More Sonos Lock-In – Victrola Stream Turntables Can Now Connect to Almost Anything

If you own a Victrola Stream turntable, you’re in for a nice surprise. Victrola is rolling out an automatic software update that adds Bluetooth, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), and Roon compatibility to several models. This means that instead of being tied just to Sonos speakers, these turntables can now stream to a much wider range of devices.

The update applies to the Victrola Stream Carbon, Onyx, Pearl, and Sapphire turntables and requires no manual installation—it will simply roll out over Wi-Fi. Here’s what this means for vinyl lovers.

Originally, Victrola’s Stream series turntables were all about Sonos integration—they could send audio wirelessly to Sonos speakers without any extra equipment. That was great for Sonos users, but if you wanted Bluetooth or a way to stream to other systems, you were out of luck.

This update changes that. Now, three big connectivity upgrades make these turntables much more versatile:

  • Bluetooth Streaming – Pair your turntable with Bluetooth speakers, headphones, or earbuds for a more flexible listening experience.
  • UPnP (VinylStream Wi-Fi) – Stream your vinyl to UPnP-enabled speakers, AV receivers, Hi-Fi streamers, and even smart TVs from brands like KEF, JBL, Sony, Samsung, WiiM, Denon, and Marantz.
  • Roon Compatibility – Use the turntable as a source for Roon-based multi-room setups and stream vinyl in 24-bit/48kHz FLAC quality to Roon-compatible devices.

Basically, instead of being limited to Sonos speakers, you can now wirelessly connect to a lot more devices, whether they use Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or Roon.

Here’s an interesting twist—the Bluetooth hardware was apparently already built into these turntables, but it wasn’t enabled until now. At launch, the focus was on Sonos compatibility, but Victrola is now unlocking a feature that was always there.

This means existing owners are getting a free upgrade without needing to buy a new model. And for anyone considering a wireless turntable, Victrola’s lineup just became a much more attractive option.

“This update is a major step forward in our mission to blend the warmth of vinyl with the convenience of modern wireless audio,” said Scott Hagen, CEO of Victrola. “The Victrola Stream turntables have been the best option for Sonos users, and now we’re extending that same effortless streaming experience to even more audio ecosystems. Vinyl lovers can now enjoy premium wireless flexibility without compromise.”

If you already own a Victrola Stream Carbon, Onyx, Pearl, or Sapphire, you don’t have to do anything—the update installs itself over Wi-Fi. Once it’s applied, you’ll see new toggles in the Victrola app for switching between Sonos, Bluetooth, and UPnP. There’s also a knob on the turntable that lets you change between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth directly.

This keeps things simple, so you can quickly choose how you want to listen without digging through complicated menus.
